3 weeks postpartum, 2nd degree tear

Hi,

I had a forceps delivery and got a 2nd degree tear. My stitches have healed really well, however I still feel quite achey down below.

It just feels "bruised" so to speak, it aches more when I've been on my feet a lot. Is this normal for 3 weeks post partum with a 2nd degree tear? My stitches are fine I just still feel achey down below and Google has me worried about a prolapse. I don't have any symptoms of a prolapse like I said I just feel achey especially when I've did alot during the day or walked a lot.

normal, mine took 6 weeks or so to feel better.

I got several 2nd degree tears for DD (12 stitches) and they healed up without me even noticing and very little 'bruised' feeling.

With ds I had no tearing but ached for 4 months as he got stuck. Sitting was bad for weeks.

It's likely your bruised feeling (that's exactly how it felt to me too) is a result of the internal stretching rather then the tearing which is pretty superficial at second degree.

I never thought about that, it does make sense that it could be from him getting stuck. Hence why I needed a forceps delivery in the end, his head was tilted when he was coming down the birth canal which resulted in him basically getting his head wedged.

It's definitely worse when I've over done it - my stitches felt better quite quickly and now all I can see is my scar which looks fine. It's just the bruised feeling that I was worried about hopefully it will get better soon

I'm glad it's normal. I suppose I just need to give myself time to heal as I am only 3 weeks post partum today

Yes, for ds he crowned very very slowly so the ring of fire 'moment' lasted several excruciating minutes for me. It was positional for him as his arm was over his shoulder wedging him in. I imagine a forceps delivery after getting stuck would result in similar. I think that if baby is stuck in birth canal for longer then normal is can cause more of that feeling. DD came out in normal time and I felt fine, she was my second though. With your first you will get more bruising anyway.

Take 6 weeks or so for your body to settle down, stop leaking from everywhere and get used to the broken sleep. Our bodies are amazing aren't they!
