Episiotomy not healed - 15 weeks PP

Hi all

As title says, I’m 15 weeks PP and my episiotomy has not yet fully healed. I’ve had a range of issues PP and am now getting really fed up. Most people seem to be healed by now, even if they’ve had issues.

In June I gave birth to my lovely daughter. Her heart rate suddenly dropped when pushing so I had an episiotomy to get her out quickly. The consultant said it was a smaller cut than she usually did as my LO was almost out.

There were no issues when MWs checked it when I was discharged from them. However shortly before my 6 week check (at 8 weeks) it became a bit uncomfortable and the GP gave me antibiotics. They helped but a few weeks back it became uncomfortable again and I was referred to gynae who put me on a longer course of antibiotics. Those again cleared it up.

It has however become uncomfortable again, although not painful. It’s more itchy to be honest. I’ve had a look and it is healed but that side is just ‘bigger’ than the other. There is some redness and just inside my bits there is a small bright red patch of skin (looks a bit raw almost). No blood.

I’m absolutely terrified of having to have any sort of operation/cauterisation. I’ve been in pain from various things since I have birth and can’t take anymore. I also don’t have a support system where I live other than my partner who has to work so the recovery would be harder now my baby is older so doesn’t just sleep all the time!

Has anyone had a similarly stubborn episiotomy and it eventually healed from antibiotics? Is there anything more I can do at home to help?

I do have another appt with the GP who will likely refer me to gynae again but just looking for any other similar experiences.

To add that I’ve also been left with an anal fissure (which is almost healed) and an anal skin tag from my pregnancy/birth piles so there’s a lot going on down there. Both of those are also causing irritation. The GP did mentioned the possibility of an anal fistula but I have no symptoms other than the skin irritation so not sure where that came from. I’ve always had sensitive skin down below which flares up occasionally so that’s nothing new.
