Asked if you're pregnant and you're not

Interested in other people's opinions, I've recently had baby no 2. Out in Asda a moment ago and an elderly lady came over and said how lovely my little girl's hair was, happens often as she has large ringlets which was lovely. Then commented on how I have another little one (who is clearly a newborn and was in the car seat on the pram - 9 weeks old). She then went 'oh and I see you're going again with another one' insinuating I was about to have number 3. 😅 How would you respond to this 🤣 I said 'oh no, I only had her 2 months ago, don't expect to bounce back yet' she seemed embarrassed but would you have said something like this? First time this has happened to me 😅 so was pretty taken aback 😅 also thought I wasn't looking too bad for 2 months pp but clearly not 🤣😅

I would have absolutely no qualms about embarrassing someone and saying “Look! I’ve just had a baby!”

Even if they are elderly and maybe a bit dotty 😉

I had that. Baby was a few weeks old, in ITU, I was in the parents' accommodation grabbing a cuppa and a father of another patient (after discussing our children and what they were in for) asked me when I was due. That was what alerted me to still having some 'baby weight'. I think I replied that I'd not long given birth to the baby we had just been talking about ...

I honestly wouldn’t care, especially if the person was elderly. Those who have had kids a while ago or haven’t had kids have no idea how old babies are…before I had a baby you could have shown me a baby and I would have been clueless as to their age. If you let the opinion of every stranger bother you you’ll go mad. I probably just would have made a joke out of it as to not make her feel bad considering she clearly wasn’t trying to be horrible.

I had someone at work recently congratulate me on my exciting news! I was mortified, my youngest is 2 years old 😅😅 To be fair, I was wearing a smock style dress which wasn't very flattering- needless to say I won't ever be wearing it again 🙈

If I had a 9 week old baby on a pram and someone thought I am pregnant enough to show I would be so gobsmacked that probably would be speechless. Or say something as ridiculous back.
My mum (70s), I and my DD (newborn at the time) were in Asda and I popped in alone so my mum was outside with the pram... elderly lady stopped and gave some dirty looks to my mum and told her 'bless you'. Some people have no common sense.

Used to happen to friend and she just said “I’m not pregnant, just fat” that used to stop them in their tracks

LoveBluey · 14/09/2024 22:24

This happened to me when I was with my 2 week old baby. It's just so thoughtless as it was so obviously a very tiny (6 pound) newborn baby. There was no way I could be visibly pregnant with another baby.

I didn't say much, held in the tears until I got to the car and then bawled!

Your response was totally fine. I don't know why people think your stomach is going to be flat the moment you give birth. Someone asked a friend of mine when she was due and she said 'three months ago'. They had to think for a minute...
