Forceps and incontinence

Hi all
Just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences.
I had a forceps delivery on Monday which obviously involved an episiotomy.
I had a catheter inserted during my labour for the epidural and given a spinal block in theatre incase I needed a c section.
The forceps did work and 12 hours later the catheter was removed without issue. I managed to do a rather big wee about 5 hours later, no problems.
Yesterday was also ok wee wise and I really enjoyed not weeing every 10 minutes like I had done in pregnancy!
This morning I stood up from our kitchen bar stool and thought I felt some blood seep in to my pad, only to realise it was wee and I was weeing myself! It was a huge long wee that I had absolutely no control over stopping. I just had to stand there while it all poured out.
All I can find online is details about stress incontinence post forceps but I don’t think this was that. It’s like my bladder got overly full, didn’t tell my brain and so just decided to empty itself!

Has anyone experienced this? I am now so worried about what this could mean.

Thanks

I haven't, but I didn't want to leave you on 'unanswered'.

Phone the midwives in the morning.

Agree to phone midwives so they can reassure you. My guess 5 days post birth would just be that everything isn't quite back to normal & as everything shifts inside, the nerves etc sending signals are all a bit all over the place. Worth it to call them though x

Hi
I had the same as you and wet myself a fair bit for a couple of weeks…it has got much better. However not back to 100%….i discovered this trying to sprint on a treadmill 😫😂

No this didn’t happen to me. Ask for a pelvic physio referral. If they try and fob you off keep on asking! Every woman who has had a vaginal delivery should have one really. It would stop so many women suffering with problems that are fixable.

Honestly, go see a pelvic physio. It is not something you have to live with. In the same way you’d get physio for a muscle injury in the knee or shoulder, it can be fixed!

No experience but didn’t want to read and run. Please get this checked and get treatment. Don’t be fobbed off with ‘it’s stuff women have to put up with’. As PP said, you would for a sore shoulder or knee after a tennis injury. And you have been injured here!

You can self refer to women’s health physio.

I had very little control straight after a forceps delivery, mainly my back passage, I passed wind involuntarily when I stood up, small bowel movements escaped too Blush
Things really improved over 6-8 weeks. I think back to normal by 6 months post delivery. I didn't have any physio. But ask your midwife if you should

I didn't have forceps, but I experienced this for maybe a week post giving birth. A couple of times in the hospital I leaked into the floor. It was the same, I wet myself with a very full bladder, but never felt the need to go to the loo. I'm now 3.5 months post-birth and just get some leaks when running, I'm ok day-to-day.

You need to strengthen your pelvic floor post delivery. The NHS should have given you a leaflet on the importance of pelvic floor exercises. If they haven’t, speak to your midwife / GP or if you can afford it see a pelvic health physio who will check your pelvic floor and show you how to do the exercises. The exercises strengthen the muscles which control bladder function, which have been weakened by childbirth. I did my exercises diligently and a few weeks after having the baby was back to sports (not high impact) without worrying about incontinence. Dont ignore it and don’t assume it will all just fix itself.
