Post natal anxiety

Hello. My LO was born 14 days ago. First born. By c section uneventful but just as we were hoping to get discharged she became jaundiced and the doctor doing the newborn exam said she had "funny eye movements" which could be epilepsy. She had UV treatment where the doctors said her breathing was fast and temp higher end normal. All in all she was seen by various paediatricians including a consultant and discharged without further concern but the anxiety started to creep in; constant dread, fear just looking at her incase she had any little sign of epilepsy I became neurotic (twitchy face.. twitchy limb). I eventually got over it and i felt i didnt need much support from the perinatal team (silly me) and now her newborn blood spot has to be retested (apparently insufficient sample) and she hasn't yet regained her birth weight (exclusively pumping day 14). Now I'm super anxious again. I don't went anything to be wrong she's so precious to me already but worry something underlying. My hubby is great but doesn't understand. Is this normal?

This all sounds really really hard, no wonder you're anxious. I had quite a traumatic scary birth and also exclusively pumped and it wasn't enough and my son lost weight. It was horrible and I ended up quite seriously ill with awful intrusive thoughts.

Can you be rereffered to perinatal team as an emergency?

Of course you're worried about your baby, she's the most precious thing in your world and the most amazing interesting person you have ever met and you and your husband are responsible for keeping her alive and it's terrifying. But you don't need to deal with this terror alone. Please talk to HV, GP, everyone, shout for help.

Also exclusively pumping is so hard. If you need to introduce formula it's ok (and yes I did beat myself up a lot over going fifty fifty but it was definitely the right choice for us)

If you want to feed directly from breast (I was desperate to but couldn't) then you can get help with that too. But as long as you are caring for your baby you're doing amazingly. You just need to care for yourself too
