Feeling crappy 2W postpartum

Just wondering if anyone had experienced similar. I was up and about in my first week with baby, feeling really good.

Now 2 weeks postpartum feel like I’ve really gone backwards.

I’ve felt quite exhausted and achy. Headaches and mild ear ache. My midwife checked my blood pressure today and it was fine.

I did have quite an engorged boob 2 days ago which I massaged out but a bit roughly so feels a bit bruised now but no obvious signs of mastitis - no redness, fever or chills.

Is this just normal recovery things? Exhaustion and maybe dehydration from breastfeeding?

Would appreciate hearing of similar experiences!

Is your temperature normal? Just keep an eye as if it is raised it's possible it's an infection from the birth. X

I was the same right after giving birth I got up had a shower etc I was in hospital for an extra few days and felt fine other than tiredness but the second week when I was at home I felt like it all caught up with me. I got a UTI , started to be super aware of my stitches and aches and pains. I think k we forget how much our bodies have actually been through , try take it easy I literally barley left the house for the first 2 weeks other than a Gp & hospital visit and this week feel much better for it. I think the tiredness just on its own plays a big part last week
I felt physically ill I was so exhausted.

Thank you both. Weirdly I feel a lot better today.

I thought I had mastitis as I started having shivers and a low grade fever but GP wasn’t sure as I didn’t have any significant redness so didn’t give me antibiotics or anything.

I just topped up on paracetamol and ibuprofen and whatever it was seems to have passed. Made sure to drink extra water as well.

I think it’s just an intense time for our bodies sometimes we don’t even realise it!

@Blurbz glad you're feeling better! That's the main thing. I'd say though if you have similar symptoms again to press for antibiotics for mastitis - mine started with a sore boob on a Wednesday afternoon, fever and chills by evening but no redness. I was on antibiotics by Thurs lunchtime but still admitted to hospital by Friday evening for suspected sepsis as the antibiotics didn't get it under control. The redness didn't start until Friday morning.

Hi OP,

i think the Adrenalin of the first few days/week keep you going then you have a bit of a ‘crash’ from exhaustion, hormones etc. That is what happened to me, second week I was completely zonked

@Springadorable Oh god, what a nightmare! Thank you for sharing, that’s helpful to know. I think whatever was wrong has subsided now so hopefully onwards and upwards now.

@FTMaz I think this is so true. The adrenaline wears off and the broken sleep quickly catches up with you.

Fortunately I’m feeling much better (even after a night of hourly wake ups 🤪) - plenty of water, keeping on top of painkillers, extra vitamin C and a shower before bed have all helped.

Thanks everyone x
