Chin hairs

Dotty93 · 10/06/2024 19:44

Looking for some positivity!

I had my third baby 3 months ago and now I seem to be growing a beard!!
I have black thick chin hairs, lots and seem to be getting more each day.
I've been plucking them, don't know if I should have been shaving them instead.

Has anyone else been in this situation and they suddenly stopped growing?

My hair is falling out so why on earth am I growing a beard!
I'm trying not to stress and be calm about the shitty situation.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Most likely it's hormonal I would personally stop plucking them and opt for laser hair removal

ApoodlecalledPenny · 18/06/2024 15:31

Or the Philips light remover thingy which is brilliant and will be cheaper in the long run. I had laser, but because mine is hormonal it needs topping up now and then, and it has been brilliant for that.

Dotty93 · 16/07/2024 21:36

Little update, I've had a full blood test and everything came back normal.
Hormone levels are as they should be.

Don't know if I should go back to the Doctor, to see if we can get to the route of the problem.
Or if this is just the new norm for me.

It does increase with age. How much of a problem are you talking about? Half a dozen noticeable ones, or 5 o’clock shadow?

Dotty93 · 24/07/2024 08:56

So before it was a couple on the one side of my chin, that's has increased (by lots) I now have lots on the other side all over my chin and starting to come underneath.

I had my little one 6 months ago, exclusively breastfeeding, I haven't had a period yet - secretly hoping that the chin hairs disappear when I start getting my cycle and I stop breastfeeding 😞

Thought I'd give a update!

Decided to speak to the Doctors again about my "lovely" chin hair.
Turns out they did not check my hormone levels, but checked my iron, B12 etc. (everything they checked is normal)

The doctor I spoke to said because I am breastfeeding, a hormone test won't be reliable right now. It's best to have it checked out a month or so after I finish breastfeeding.
Then we can look further into the chin hair issue. In the mean time I am hoping my chin hairs, gets sick of my grumpy, tired self and decides to disappear!!

Please do update if you get more news. I grew a handsome beard after my second child and I still have it now that she's 3 😖

Not had my hormone levels checked or anything like that.

I will probably finish breastfeeding around 7 months time, but will try and update further down the line!

It's horrible isn't it 😔, have you been to the doctors about it?

It became my normal from around 35.
I have spent thousands on different laser and hair removal treatments over the years. I have had blood tests doctors appointments etc.

At the age if 59, I've accepted it but don't like it and have threading once a fortnight.

Duckyfondant · 01/08/2024 16:27

I've just sort of accepted it tbh. I try and live healthily and hope, if there is a hormone balance, that it fixes itself. But then I'm not keen on taking any sort of hormonal treatment

chickenwings2 · 01/08/2024 16:36

Please please invest in a laser hair removal machine if you can. I had this mostly when I slowed down the feeds and the laser machine has been the best money I've ever spent!! Bought with boots card so got loads of points to use after

Curlewwoohoo · 01/08/2024 16:40

I believe it's normal. I'm not alone anyway, lots of friends have the same issue. I tried the lumea but it didn't work for me unfortunately. Went for professional IPL and that didn't work either. I now get electrolysis every 3 weeks. I think they are slightly less thick if you squint. So I'm resigned to a long haul. Along with several mates like I say.

This is a great idea op as you say you have black hairs.
Unfortunately for me it doesn't work on light hair. I have a terrible combination of thick whites!

Duckyfondant · 01/08/2024 20:52

Yea, as soon as I thought about a laser gun, half of mine went white 😅

Silly question, what would the process be? Do I need to shave first or let the hair grow and then zap them?

I'm glad you all are accepting it.

I normally put concealer on my chin, sometimes helps disguise the black dots ready to poke through. Decided not to today and then walked past a mirror in work and almost cried. Saw a new black hair!

@Curlewwoohoo if you don't mind me asking, how much do you pay for electrolysis? I've heard it can be expensive?

OP posts:
Curlewwoohoo · 02/08/2024 16:26

It's £17 for 15 minutes every 3 weeks.

wetpebbles · 02/08/2024 16:29

i bought an ipl on amazon around £60 and that has worked for me

Dotty93 · 02/08/2024 16:30

Thank you all for the responses anyway, ive been keeping this to myself, too embarrassed to tell my fiance.
Secretly trying to disguise the chin hair 😞
Haven't spoke to my mother about it because she loves a gossip, I'm a little bit sensitive about it at the moment aha

I've booked to have electrolysis on Friday!
My chin hair isn't getting any better, so thought I should give it a try

OP posts:
Alkaline182 · 01/04/2025 16:02

I know this is an old thread, but how did the electrolysis go, any noticeable difference? Tempted to try it and thought you must be able to comment on whether it worked for you by now?

Curlewwoohoo · 01/04/2025 21:16

I'm still getting it done every 3 weeks, so no increase in time between. I think the actual hairs are a bit less chunky.

Dotty93 · 13/04/2026 18:32

Hi all,
It's been a while, but thought I'd post a little update. Nothing positive though aha.
So I probably had electrolysis for about 8 months, it would be every 2 weeks, the electrolysis would be great for a week and then by week two they would need to be zapped again. However there was very little hair I suppose, so must have been working.
But working long hours and trying to work around family I didn't find the time to keep it up. Maybe in the future.
But I did get a hormonal blood test and everything was normal, I'm abit gutted, only because now I still haven't got an answer.
Back to the doctors!

I'm 30 with no children and I have lots of dark hair spouting by my mouth. Think it might just be an age thing.

Mines now all over my chin :(
I can cope with the ones on my top lip and on the side of my mouth, but not my chin, the hair is so much thicker and gets ingrown.

I've posted up thread I think and have had a turn about so updating. I realised that I'd had 4 years of electrolysis and 1 year of ipl before that. So clearly not working. I asked AI advice and it put me on to a different Lazer. I have been for this twice, 4 week gap in between, and touch wood it is so much improved already! I think I may only go one or two more times. It's £35 each time.

The website says it: combines the power of Diode, Alexandrite, and YAG lasers, providing a comprehensive solution for virtually all skin and hair types. The Alexandrite wavelength is highly effective for lighter skin tones, the Diode is a versatile powerhouse for a broad range of clients, and the YAG is specifically designed for deeper penetration, making it the safest option for darker skin.
