Undescended testicle

My son has one undescended testicle and we've been on the waiting list for months for surgery. It was supposed to take a month to get a date but ended up taking much longer. He is now 15 months, even though the NHS website recommends it happens before 12 months. My first question is, does anyone know if that's still okay with the timeframe? Also, if anyone has been through it, I would love to hear your experience. I am absolutely terrified and scared and I hope he'll be okay. Is there anything I should keep in mind? We're due to travel to my BIL wedding only a week after by plane and I wonder if this event would be too much too soon for him? If so, I'd cancel it in a heartbeat. We don't travel often and I don't want it to be too stressful for him. Also, is he going to be in pain afterwards? It's this week and I'd love to have any heads up I can get before. Also due with my second in August, which probably heightens all of my concerns.

I wouldn’t be flying a week after the surgery

Could you speak to the consultant or specialist about flying. Doesn't sound like great timing tbh. Maybe ask and see what they would recommend in regard to flying.
I hope your son gets his surgery soon and he is on the mend asap.. can't be easy xx

Would it make you feel better if I said that the NHS didn't spot my son's condition until he was 14 and a half years old? (When apparently there's only a 50:50 success).

The drs couldn't understand how it had been missed. He's making a good recovery, and we're happy with the op.

To be honest, you could always ask the NHS to postpone the op for a few more weeks? My son wasn't in very much pain at all afterwards. He took painkillers for the first 3 days. I think you'd still be able to fly as long as you take the painkillers and wear lightweight loose clothing. Wound management might be harder in a younger child.

Ps, how are things going. I've now realised that your post is over a month ago, so hopefully, things are fine, and my advice wasn't necessary ?

My elder DS had this op at 3. They bring it down and put in a couple of stitches to hold it in place. He was up playing the next day. After a while the stitches resolved and it stayed down in place. Hope all goes well for your DS.
