Undescended testicule surgery at 15 months

My son has one undescended testicule and we've been on the waiting list for months for surgery. It was supposed to take a month to get a date but ended up taking much longer. He is now 15 months, even though the NHS website recommends it happens before 12 months. My first question is, does anyone know if that's still okay with the timeframe? Also, if anyone has been through it, I would love to hear your experience. I am absolutely terrified and scared and I hope he'll be okay. Is there anything I should keep in mind? We're due to travel to my BIL wedding only a week after by plane and I wonder if this event would be too much too soon for him? If so, I'd cancel it in a heartbeat. We don't travel often and I don't want it to be too stressful for him. Also, is he going to be in pain afterwards? It's this week and I'd love to have any heads up I can get before. Also due with my second in August, which probably heightens all of my concerns.

I wouldn't worry too much about the timeframe. My DS had a yoyo-ing (more up than down!) testicle and eventually had surgery aged 11. He's fine and it hasn't impacted his development in any way.

He was tender for about 2 weeks but nothing that paracetamol couldn't deal with after the first day.

I'd probably ask them about flying as they pump the abdomen full of air to get a good view for keyhole surgery and that takes a while to deflate. It can be more uncomfortable than the surgery itself.
