Clexane injections - pricked myself

Hi, currently 1 week postpartum and trying to multi-task (stupidly) using my opposite hand trying to close injection to put into sharps bin after using and accidentally pricked my finger. I previously suffered with mental health and since having baby anxiety is at its peak so got worst case scenarios in my head. I have washed my hands instantly etc does anyone know if this is ok? Can’t bare the thought of 111 for advice with waiting times or waste anyones time over something thats silly. Tia.

As long as the needle has not been used on anyone other than you, it’s not a problem
(I work in maternity care).
congratulations on your baby.

its absolutely fine, what do you think could be bad about this?

TooManyNiblings · 01/06/2024 22:59

Needle stick injuries are only a risk of cross contamination, ie from patients to staff. If I understand correctly and you have double stabbed yourself, it's just an accident and nothing to worry about.

You’ll be absolutely fine, the only risk would be if someone else pricked themself (and could potentially catch something from you!) Please do seek help for your anxiety though - I know what it’s like to be an anxious new mum but your GP can help

It’s fine OP don’t worry. They’re sterile needles. I’m diabetic and prick myself all the time by accident.

Needlestick injuries are only a problem if the needle has previously been used on a different person. This hadn't. You're fine.
