Lumps from giving my mom's blood thinning injects

After my mom gave birth to my second brother, they found she had a blood clot in that specific area.

I've been giving her the blood thinning injections for about three weeks now, under the skin and in the stomach like the nurse told me too, using the opposite side each day. The problem is that lumps are getting more frequent and I'm worried about it, especially because it hurts her and I want to make sure she's getting all the medicine she needs.

I'm diabetic myself and have been told when I get lumps, it means I'm not getting all my insulin. Any advice?

Can I do it in her thigh? The nurse never told me to do it there, only stomach.

It’s quite common to develop lumps at the injection site but I understand your concern.
You won’t be causing any damage to your mum but it definitely helps to inject in different areas of the stomach each time.

It sounds as though your dad is being pretty pathetic about her medical issues and it’s falling on you. I mean, he has a needle phobia but refusing to discuss your concerns or help you make a drs appt ?

You can certainly ring 1111 and ask for advice. Your mum can also get a phone appointment with a doctor that way.
It can take a while to get through and you get a call back a couple of hours later.

If no underlying health conditions, it may be possible to stop the anti coagulant before 6 weeks if side effects are quite severe. This MUST be approved by an HCP though.

It’s also worth asking for help.
Have a look or ask at your gp practice if your mum is eligible for a community nurse to come to the house to give the injections if you’re struggling with it and have concerns.

The name of the injection is Inhixa, enoxaparin. I've looked into it and it said it's best to do in the stomach only.

I've already been doing it there for 3 weeks and they expect me to keep injecting there for 6.

I had this one after both my children. We had to pinch the fat on the stomach, either side of the belly button, or do the thigh (but I found that harder to pinch fat).

I often got bruises/little lumps (which is why they advise switching sides/places for each injection). The pinching the fat was something they definitely advised me to do.

Is there a health visitor or anyone your mum can reach out too, to check the placement when taking the injections?

You 100% need to pinch the fat.

That diagram may be misleading. Anticoagulants such as heparin should not be injected into the muscle.

I was just trying to illustrate angles, thanks though

I think your PARENTS need to get a grip and take some responsibility for themselves. FFS, registered blind or not, grow up and be an actual parent 🙄

Fair enough. It sounds like you know what you're doing!😃
