Blocked milk duct

Rose1999 · 29/05/2024 19:04

I've been exclusively breastfeeding my baby for over 5 months and today I've noticed a hard lump in my left breast. It also feels really full despite my daughter having fed from it. Is this a blocked duct? If so, what can I do and will it affect my daughter?

Thank you, from a worried mummy x

I can sympathise with how horrible that feeling is xx

Worth going on www.instagram.com/mamas.milk?igsh=Y2d5Y2p1OGtlcTBp (@mamas.milk) she has excellent breastfeeding resources and how to best clear blocked ducts.

If it doesn't clear pop to the GP and get it checked. I've had plenty clear and I've also gone to the GP to get checked, always worth it if it doesn't clear after 24/48hours (if nothing else you want to avoid mastitis if possible!)

Sending hugs xx

Hiya
Ive had this a couple of times. When your baby drinks massage the lump and you should eventually feel it softening. You need to encourage the milk to run through that duct as she feeds. When I’ve done this it kind of feels like a pulling sensation in the duct as the milk starts to come through. As PP says though if you try that a couple of times and it doesn’t work then contact GP.

Definitely massage the area it should help

Blasting it with a hot shower head and then using the back of a comb to push from behind the blockage towards the nipple repeatedly
