Formula feeding and preventing mastitis?

Hi, I quickly decided in hospital post labour that BF wasn’t for me and we decided to go for FF before my milk came in.

We are on day 5, I seem to be getting conflicting advice from the MW about what to do with my boobs. Right now they’re solid, sore and the underneath are a bit red. She told me not to do anything with them to get my supply to disappear / not come in, however it works.

Ive just got a really big fear I’m going to develop mastitis. Should I be doing something with them? I feel so uneducated and a bit useless. She told me not to touch them but I was just lied in bed, hot, shaking a little bit.

Any advice welcome…

There is a drug availability called Cabergoline that inhibits lactation. As about this perhaps.

Hi
this is a different scenario but could be helpful. My baby is breast fed only but I have one boob that produces much more milk than the other and is therefore much bigger. I was told to just hand express the milk from that boob to ease the discomfort not enough to stimulate an actual feed which would result in it producing more. I’m no expert but I think expressing a little might help you with the pain x
