Just 4 months PP and it's really ramping up. Any tips on how to help? I have had a blood test and all ok. Keeping heat off and using soft hair ties.....

No tips but also 4m pp and lots of hair loss. Staying for the tips.

Anyone know when it will look normal again?

My hair loss was at its worst at 4 months - it lessened around 5 months. My periods returned at 6 months which when I posted before on this, may be a factor in helping hair growth?

I used silk hair ties and pillows. Bought some hair growth serum. No idea if it worked or if it just needed time. I also got a hair cut to give the illusion of thicker hair and started taking a hair vitamin.

@bottomsup12 it does peak but my god it's everywhere!!

@brownbutterfrangipanetart thank you so much!!

Sorry OP, i had horrendous hair loss with my first child and my hair looked bloody awful for a long time. I do already have thin frizzy hair that hardly grows though.

My 2nd baby is now 2 months but I am taking a Pregnacare hair and skin postnatal vitamin and also trying Plantur 39 shampoo and tonic which is specifically for hair loss. No idea if it will work though!

I had pp hair loss after each of my three births. Started at 3 months pp, and stopped at about 5/6 months pp.

The hair then regrows, which takes however long your hair takes to grow to whatever length your hair is! After my first birth I had very long hair and it took years to grow out; my hair was by far the most traumatic physical hurdle of parenthood! It didn't feel such a big deal the subsequent times as I sort of knew what to expect!

Be kind to yourself. Eat and drink well, and wait it out. There's nothing you can do to help it because it is just the normal cycle of growth for hair being impacted by pregnancy hormones Flowers

mathanxiety · 01/02/2024 03:39

You're losing a lot of excess hair that didn't fall out when you were pregnant. Hang in there. Your hormones will stabilise.

SuperDopper · 01/02/2024 05:52

Presumably when you were pregnant your hair didn’t fall out much, if at all?

The hair that would have naturally fallen out over the past few months is now shedding, so it looks like a lot. Nothing you can do I’m afraid apart from wait it out. With my first, it was bad for around a month with just more than usual for maybe another month or so. I’ve just started shedding after my second and I very much miss the showers I had where not a single strand of here would fall out!

With my son, I lost loads of my hair at 6 months pp. the only thing that helped was a good cut.

Yeah I suffered twice and it’s awful.

it will be at its worst now. Mine stopped suddenly (twice) at about the 6 month mark. My hair looked dreadful then as the new hair sprouted up all over. It did eventually go back to normal. By all means try all the vitamins etc but in my case nothing worked other than time.

You know, it never occurred to me that’s why my hair always looks frizzy! When actually, it’s the regrowth from the hair loss!
