Hello, I am 2.5 weeks postpartum and have had mastitis for first time ever. Didn’t realise how awful it is!! On flucloxaccillin for 7 days. Is that long enough? Sooo scared of if coming back. I am feeling bit better today, 72hours into antibiotics. Breast is less red and lumpy, still have a bad headache and baby’s tummy upset from them 😭
Should I be on a 10 day course? I hate taking them but I absolutely do not want this to come back!!
any other tips to stop it reoccurring?
I’ve breastfed 2 children for 18 months each and never had this issue before! Don’t know what has happened this time and I’m scared if might ruin breastfeeding which is really important to me.
thank you
Chris xx

So sorry you've got Mastitis, especially with such a young baby and other DC to look after as well.

Kellymom has some good information on the treatment of Mastitis here Flowers

Yes, 7 days is adequate. I was in hospital with mastitis and told not to take the antibiotics for more than 7 days from the first dose to prevent antibiotic resistance. I was given two types of antibiotics, but I was severely ill and was in hospital for five days.

I'm not sure how you can prevent it from reoccurring other than making sure your breasts do not become too full. Perhaps reach out to the Breastfeeding Network or La Leche League for some advice. I hope you feel better soon. Mastitis is bloody miserable!!!
