Vagina feels sore weeks after birth

I’m currently 6 weeks pp from a forceps delivery. Im still having some pain down below
Im not sure what to call it apart from the roof of the inside of the vagina? (I’ve marked a purple cross on the diagram below) it also appears to be lower down than before. Is this common after childbirth?

It could mean you have a slight prolapse, yes. Not uncommon.

Think about what your vagina went through with the birth, they really do take an absolute bashing, especially if you had forceps too. It’s such a traumatic thing, it all takes time to heal x

Oh gosh that’s what I’ve been worried about 😢 it feels so bruised and sore still but it’s hard? I assumed a prolapse was soft? X

If it’s hard it could well just be the wall of the vagina … and that it’s inflamed and sore.

You can have prolapse of the vaginal walls after birth, as I do. It doesn’t bother me anymore, but at the time was sore like you say. It looked lower too, but that’s normal x

Thank you for your help 😊 I couldn’t find anything online about it and I can’t get in to see a gp for a few weeks. If the wall has prolapsed does pelvic floor exercise help do you know? I don’t suppose anything much would be done about it unless it causes pain for months x

Yes pelvic floor exercises will help. Even better, a pelvic floor machine too.

It will improve, the soreness will subside. Just think of the trauma to it, birth is pretty awful for the vagina, even if it does stretch x

Oh brilliant that’s good to know! I’ve been looking into the machines just unsure on what one to go for.

Thank you 😊 I feel like no one really talks about how sore your lady parts are afterwards! X

I have a kegel 8 machine that has worked wonders on my vaginal prolapse . However it may still be too early as your vagina has had a significant trauma from the birth and forceps. I really would suggest getting GP to have a look before you put a small electric current up there as it’s a bit of a shock at first

Mumofonexo · 30/09/2023 14:27

Haha no I don’t want to be putting anything up there for a few months tbh I’m nervous about even a tampon 🙈 thank you, how does that machine work does it tone the muscles or something? X
