Fentons Procedure

I searched through these forums looking for someone else's experience ahead of a fentons procedure and couldn't find anything too recent so I wanted to share my experience in the hopes it will help someone else!
I had a vaginal delivery, no episiotomy but I did have a grade 2 tear requiring stitches. I had an almost pain free recovery until I noticed a tight pulling sensation 4weeks pp. While my stitches had healed, a small section of skin had adhered to the wrong side down below, leading to a too tight vaginal entrance. I went to gp who referred me to maternity hospital perineal clinic where it was recommended I undergo fentons procedure at 5.5months pp.
I was offered general anaesthetic as standard but requested local as I'm still breastfeeding and wanted to get in and out of the hospital as quickly as possible. The procedure took 5 minutes. I could feel the local anaesthetic injections for about ten seconds then could feel nothing at all. It was so quick and painless, I feel like local really should be offered more frequently.
I understand some people prefer the idea of sleeping through the whole thing, but for me, the thoughts of not being aware of what was happening in such a vulnerable position, was much worse. No regrets at all! The doctor told me the anaesthetist said I was mad, which wasn't the most helpful thing to hear, and honestly I completely disagree, it was more than manageable.
Day one post procedure and there is pain and I'm hoping everything heals correctly this time.. but otherwise doing well.
So for anyone considering the procedure with just local, here's a positive experience to read about!

Hi!
Thanks so much for this! I’m due to have mine on Monday and I’ve opted for local too. I’ve read mainly posts about general so this was really helpful to read through. How are you doing now? I hope everything has healed well for you

Hi,

I had my 6 week post op check last Monday and it is all healed like it was supposed to. Recovery was fine, I had to make sure the skin didn't stick together so followed what the Dr said to do and used a cream too. Within a few days I could move around as normal without any sensation of having had a procedure.
No regrets about having it done and happy with the results!

Best of luck on Monday, it will all be over and done before you know it. Just count to ten as they do the local and the rest is easy.

Hi!

Thats great! I’ve just had it done and the procedure itself was absolutely fine, couldn’t feel any pain. The injection of the local was the worst bit but brief. It’s obviously quite sore now once the local anaesthetic has worn off. Hopefully that doesn’t last so long, but it’s manageable!

Thanks again for sharing your experience!

I’m so glad I found my people!
I had the Fentons on 21st November (2.5 years pp) however no follow up ‘required’
worrying as I had to go and see my gp a few days ago to be told some of it had opened (bear in mind I took 2 weeks off work and will WFH for the next few and it’s still managed to open slightly.
any tips or recommendations?
I have noticed that when I do a number 2 it bleeds.. the vagina not the back.
most peculiar. Any experience with this the first few weeks? Thanks in advance!
