Has anyone experienced significant weight loss after pregnancy ? I’m 12 months post-partum and am now in a dress-size 6, when I was 8-10 before, I’ve also dropped a bra size. I have the chest of a teenage boy ! I’ve made no efforts to lose weight, I don’t do sport but am active with daily walks and I eat 3 good meals a day. I put it down to constantly running after a 1 and 3 year old but now I’m losing hair too, when I brush and when I wash (I had this just after my DD was born then it went away for a while)
I’m wondering if this is usual ? Any similar experiences out there ?

Sounds like the usual bodily adjustments however, it could be worth getting your thyroid checked as you maybe shouldn’t be losing too much weight if you are eating well. What size were you before?

Are you taking calcium and iron supplements? Our family friend is an obstetrician and he advised me to continue calcium and iron for until 6 months post my delivery along with my vitamin supplements. As looking after babies is stressful and it's but obvious that we neglect our diet at times . I also exclusively bf my child until 1 and half year .

I’m very similar @speckledfroglet
I didn’t really track my weight pre pregnancy but I’d estimate I’ve lost at least a stone and a half compared to pre pregnancy weight.
I used to be a large size 10, sometimes a 12, but am definitely now an 8 and my boobs have really shrunk. My hair is also shedding, but Im hoping that will ease up soon. My baby is just over a year old and I breast fed up until around 11 months.

Not to scare you, but my GP actually sent me for tests to rule out cancer, as I also had a
lump, which turned out to just be a lipoma.
It might be worth talking to your GP if you are worried.
It seems I’m just one of those women who loses weight after having a baby. I reckon it’s the walking and being active, running around after a toddler and not eating as many snacks! I’ve had several friends who were the same.

Similar with me. Lost loads of weight after first baby. After second baby only dipped half a stone under my 'normal weight' but boobs definitely smaller and they were small to start with! Hey ho, I don't mind really.

Yes, I was thinnest I'd ever been the year or so after I had my baby and it wasn't intentional. I put it down to having PP anxiety and depression. I'm not sure if there's any scientific link to the two, but I felt that constantly being on 'high alert' and worrying intensely all the time was making me loose weight. could this be the same for you? I'm 3 years post partum now and seem to be back to my healthy pre-pregnancy weight.

I’m not currently taking iron supplements and have had a slight deficiency in the past so this may explain things. I’ve been extremely low energy today which could also be a symptom, I’ll see my GP about having a blood test. I think up until now I just put the fatigue down to mum life, and I barely noticed the weight loss until recently when the weather got better and my summer dresses were hanging off me. I definitely need to take better care of myself generally: less sugar, more water…

@Abs8 Thanks for sharing your experiences. I haven’t had postnatal depression but definitely low moments. It’s been really hard work with my 3 year old during these holidays, I’ve felt myself getting incredibly stressed which might be contributing.

As a rule of thumb always have a glass of water or any healthy fluids before you start to bf. I would usually have water or milk at night to help me sleep better. It helps with the demand and supply of breast milk . And yes request a checkup precisely blood works quoting fatigue ad. Weight loss . As you need to be healthy so you can look after your little one better. Xx
