Severe health anxiety - does this cat scratch look ok?

I just wanted to start this off by saying I know this is pathetic, but I am so so worried. I have severe health anxiety as a result of the broth of my third child and it’s getting worse.

my little boy (3) was playing with our kitten today and she mistook his arm for her toy and scratched him - see here. I’m now catsrophising he’s going to get infected and become really I’ll. I’ve cleaned it and put germoleme and sudocreme on it, will it be ok? She has been deflead and dewormed, she’s getting her injections this coming Friday.

thank you if you made it this far.

It looks absolutely fine OP, honestly. Totally normal and as cat scratches go I would say it's really mild! Cleaning and germolene is exactly what I would have done too.

Sleepydoor · 20/07/2023 13:57

Looks perfectly fine.

Megifer · 20/07/2023 13:58

Yea that looks fine op. Carry on with the germolene and it'll be practically healed by tomorrow 😊

Singleandproud · 20/07/2023 14:01

It looks absolutely fine and just a normal cat scratch.

If there was an issue then the area around the scratch would be red, hot to the touch, a little inflamed and you might see a red line tracking up his arm. This can happen following cat scratches and bites but is quite rare.

Thanks all so much for taking the time to comment and reassure. I really need help for my anxiety as I’m currently sat here in tears thinking of all of the things that could happen?! Even if I was told by a doctor it’s fine I still wouldn’t believe them, I am like this about everything and it is just exhausting.

thank you again x

@tm123x have you had first aid training? You may find the knowledge is power and gives you some control over your anxiety as well as having therapy.

I have had some but years ago now. That’s a good shout, thank you.

The scratch looks fine OP.

In addition to a first aid course, have you spoken to your GP about your anxiety? It sounds crippling. CBT might be beneficial or even meds.

Staticgirl · 20/07/2023 16:03

I had a cat scratch at about 6 and it went yellow and infected. All that happened was I got some antibiotics and the doctor decided I needed a tetanus injection. I didn't actually feel ill. Don't worry there is plenty that can be done and you are ready to act.

Staticgirl · 20/07/2023 16:05

Also I can recommend CBT for health anxiety as my life has improved since I got some as i have ways to deal with it now.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 20/07/2023 16:41

Yeah looks fine. DD has had loads over the years including a big one on her face once which she enjoyed telling a woman in the supermarket about 🤣

I’ll try and keep this concise! Wondering if anyone has experienced mildly intrusive or irrational thoughts after having children? I had my 2nd DC almost a year ago, and for the past few months I’ve been having what I can only describe as intrusive/irrational thoughts. This did not happen after DC1.

Things like worrying I’ll drop baby over the banister when carrying them near the stairs and visualising this happening. Also very regularly now worrying about travelling under bridges, through tunnels, being on the ground or lower floors of tall buildings.

I know logically that these things are clearly safe, how many people travel on the underground every day?! People work and live in massive tall buildings all over the world.

But I find since my last child, I just can’t help thinking about these scenarios and things that could go wrong. It’s not currently affecting my day to day life, but I do have to try and control my thoughts around this.

Anyone experience something similar, or is it just me?!

Wolfiefan · 21/07/2023 21:27

Kittens do this.
i have had both intrusive thoughts and severe anxiety. I had CBT and take fluoxetine. Please don’t just suffer and struggle on.

I had cat scratch fever as a child, maybe 4-5yo. My parents took me to doctor when my hand & wrist were bright red. They didn't know why, just thought it wasn't normal. I was fine, btw ! Had oral antiBs if I recall, and I felt pretty rough then, overhot & fatigued & dozey.
