I have a 5 week.old and my husband has started feeling ill with a sore throat and headache. First time parents - should he isolate? How concerned should I be about newborn getting sick?

I can't imagine it's going to be practical or sustainable for him to isolate from the baby, or indeed for anyone with a cold going forward to isolate. It certainly wouldn't occur to me/our family to try and isolate (unless suggestion of a more severe infectious disease eg. Measles!)

I've had a rotten cold the last week and have a 9 week old. Just tried to make sure I followed basic hygiene like washed my hands and sneezed/coughed into elbows.

Unless your baby is compromised in some
way, you do absolutely nothing apart from
common sense hygiene. Babies need to catch colds, you’ll be dealing with about one illness a month once they start childcare.

This happened to us 2 weeks ago - my husband chose to sleep in a separate room as a precaution. No judgement here, I believe it’s ok to want to protect your baby from getting poorly. Anyway a few days later, our 4 month old woke in the night with a fever and vomiting so bad we called 111 and were told to go to A&E. They swabbed for infection and confirmed it was Covid.

I guess I thought I’d share because even although we took precaution, our baby still got sick. Bounced back a lot faster than we did thankfully. However, I wouldn’t judge you in any way if you did ask your husband to isolate because it was horrible seeing our little one so poorly even for those few days.
