Postpartum leakage and heaviness

Hi,

I’m 7pp after delivery with forceps and episiotomy. It took a while for my stitches to be less sore as I had an infection.

In the past few days, I’ve noticed that I leak wee when I sit down. I also feel some heaviness when walking but not all the time.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? I’m waiting for my GP appointment but I’m so anxious. I’ve been doing my pelvic floor exercises more consistently now.

Thank you!

I didn't have the leaking when sitting down but definitely had the heavy feeling and stress incontinence.

I hope the GP takes this seriously for you Flowers

I had a baby via c-section 11 months ago and I leak wee when I sneeze or cough I don't know if that is related to you lol but I thought stuff like that would never happen to me as I didnt have a vaginal birth I'm only 20 years old too not that it matters but this is the stuff I used to hear older mums talking about when I was a kid lol

I've had a forceps and episiotomy birth and was fine afterwards, also two c sections and was fine afterwards no leaking and I'm an older mum so I'd probably get checked out if I was you .

I had forceps and an episiotomy (after 3 f*ing hours of pushing...) and had similar issues to you.

Hang in there. It's called pelvic floor dysfunction. Mine is nearly 100% back to normal after 7 months but it does require you to keep with the exercises.

Ask your GP to refer you to a nurse specialist or physio and really keep with the exercise plan.

Good luck!

Thank you all. I feel a bit better after reading your experiences. I’ve booked to see a women’s health physio later this week 🤞🏻

Thank you! I wish I hadn’t agreed to an episiotomy after pushing for so long 😡

Glad you have booked to see a women's health physio! I have just read a book written by a pelvic health expert Emma Brockwell, was really enlightening!

@gwen7896 just out of curiosity, how come you wish you hadn't agreed to an epis after pushing for so long?

And secondly, did you have your epis first and then later the decision was made for forceps? Or was the epis done just prior to the forceps?

Really glad you have that appointment booked. Would be really interested to hear how it goes if you remember to update.

gwen7896 · 05/06/2023 22:52

Because they originally said I would need an emergency c section and then decided on the forceps at the last minute. Then I was told that an episiotomy would be required as well. I didn’t feel like I had a chance to ask any questions. I’ve got an appointment at the hospital to go through what happened to help me understand everything. To be honest I was so unwell that I don’t remember much.

I will try to remember to update you after my appointment 😊

Ah I see.

A section at fully is never nice. Forceps are preferable if it's doable. Much less risky. And an epis is standard with forceps.

The debrief will help you to make sense of everything.

Wishing you the best of luck at your appointment.

Hi,

Just to give you an update. It turns out I have a hypertonic pelvic floor. I had a mummy MOT with a women’s health physio. It was very interesting and I really hope she can help me with my ongoing issues!
