Can anyone give me any positive stories. We both have an appointment with GP tomorrow so I'm hoping there is something she can do

Try not to panic (if only because it won't change/help anything at this point)! Chances that your baby will be fine even if he gets chickenpox - if he's generally healthy it should 'just' pass like any other illness. Having said that, do be aware of what to look out for and how to ease the symptoms. You might want to ask your GP about what to do if your baby does get chickenpox and what you should/should not be concerned about, just in case.

Poppins2016 · 27/03/2023 22:21

Also - don't hesitate to contact your GP or 111 if your baby does develop signs of chickenpox (the NHS website actively encourages doing so for a newborn).

Thank goodness you didn't catch chicken pox a couple of months ago, that really would have been serious.

BungleandGeorge · 27/03/2023 22:25

I thought they always checked for immunity to chicken pox n pregnancy bloods. If so and you had some immunity baby is likely to also have some immunity

Is it worse when your pregnant?

They never mentioned it
I dunno if they checked or not I'm not aware of it being checked anyway

My daughter had chicken pox at 6 weeks and was completely fine. Try not to worry

nocoolnamesleft · 27/03/2023 22:29

It's worst in the last couple of weeks of pregnancy: much, much worse for the baby than at 6 weeks old. If you see scary articles about neonates with congenital chickenpox, bear in mind they're talking about when mum gets chicken pox in the last couple of weeks of pregnancy, not repeat not about babies who are already several weeks old. World of difference.

DS got it aged 4 months when my oldest got it - it was very very mild and he was fine, he just had a few spots and wasn't at all bothered or uncomforta ble. Yes, you'll probably give it to your baby but it won't be dangerous and possibly have extremely mild symptoms so baby won't be bothered by it like my DS. In many ways this is good timing for baby to have it, before they can be bored about being stuck at home. I was glad to get it over when mine were small and oldest pre school and I was at home on leave like you.

The important thing is how are you feeling OP? It can feel pretty awful for adults who get it so please look after yourself, get other people to look after you and the baby and know that even if you feel dreadful it doesn't mean it'll be severe for the baby.

My now 13 year old had CP when a newish baby and was fine. I did oat baths by putting oats in a muslin and tied to hot tap do the hot water turns the bath oaty. That will be good for you too OP.

Hard not to worry but I'm sure it's not considered a high risk illness. Just be observant

undergroundstation · 27/03/2023 22:35

Are you ok? Adult CP, if you haven’t had it at all before, can be evil…

Chicken pox in tiny babies is usually very mild, but that in part is due to antibodies passed from the mum during pregnancy which you won’t have had. Certainly sensible to chat with your GP as it can be quite rough in adults, and to know id there are any warning signs to be vigilant of in baby.
If you’re breastfeeding do your best to continue for now to pass on immunity, and keep cuddling and feeding lots to keep your supply up. Good luck!

Ponderoveryonder · 27/03/2023 22:45

My baby had chickenpox at 6 weeks. Some people said that because the baby was breastfeeding she’d have a milder dose but I have to say she was absolutely covered in spots, far more than the older children. That said, she was totally fine and didn’t seem slightly bothered or uncomfortable. I kept her in the sling lots, and covered her in baby calendula cream . No scarring.
You probably feel worse op, adult cp can be really horrible.

Only a little grumpy and a tad feverish at first. But totally fine.

thecatwiththesilveryfur · 28/03/2023 13:02

My 3yo had chicken pox (badly) when I had a newborn. I was so worried, but the baby didn't catch it, so it's not a given, especially if you're breastfeeding? Good luck OP - remember that medics are always very happy to see small babies if you're worried at all, so don't hesitate to take him in if he has any symptoms. Flowers

shelbaba · 28/03/2023 13:20

My baby had it at 10wks old. GP was very concerned and called hospital to ask for advice. They just said if her temperature was high I had to go straight to hospital. He said they can give something for it but because she was almost out the newborn stage they decided against it.

She had maybe about 7 spots in total and didn't seem bothered by it at all. It was very mild. My 2yr old though oh jeez she had them everywhere and it was so bad!

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 28/03/2023 13:32

I had it at 6 weeks old, picked up from my older siblings. I was quite poorly with it but didn't need to go to hospital or anything, and at least I can't remember anything about it!

yvonneb13 · 28/03/2023 13:37

Been to GP definitely chicken pox. He hasn't got any rash yet. I'm absolutely terrified

jjeoreo · 28/03/2023 13:45

My 3.5 year old had it 4 weeks ago and my 8 week old got it. Well, I say got it but had about 10 spots in total and was a bit grizzly for a day but was otherwise ok

Given how covered my older one was and how in the baby's face she'd been I was very surprised at how mild it was!
