worrying about a wedding two months post partum

Hi everyone, so a good friend of mine is getting married in Portugal in july, 2 months after my due date. I am pregnant with my first and no idea what to expect! 2 main problems i want advice and experience on:

I dont know how the baby will be with it all. It will be a fair bit hotter than she will have ever had before, plus the travelling, I feel a bit intimidated by it all did anyone else travel away by flight for a long weekend this soon after birth? For context I know my partner is confident and relaxed with kids and babies (more than I am)

Also, it will be really hot there, but I need something to wear! i dont wear dresses and skirts (find them uncomfortable haven't worn since a child when i had no choice), so i feel a bit stuck for choice. I havent put on excess weight so far and keeping active, so would I be back to normal size by 2 months post partum?

Thank you!

Oooh it's a tough one op!
I think you are right to be doing some forward planning.
Things I would think about re. baby:

Feeding- will you be ebf or using formula?
Difficult to plan as I guess you won't know how bf goes for you but still good to think about, as you will need to plan how much formula you need ir where you can access some

Medical insurance- in the worst case that baby or you need medical attention where will this be available and what will be covered in insurance? You would also need to consider your birth story here and whether you had surgery/ stitches etc to still be recovering from

Heat and temperatures- where will baby keep cool during heat of day and will you be able to cool the room if needed at night? Will also likely need more milk in the heat

Baby's vaccinations- will be due around the 8 week mark I think so you'll need to look into what the advice is about travel pre/post these

There's also the logistics of getting pram/car seat/carriers out with you on plane and taxi travel

Having said all this I've known people travel with very little babies with no trouble at all and some say it's pretty straightforward as baby mostly eats and sleeps at that age!

Also consider baby could be a little later than planned so maybe even younger

And you will need to have got the baby a passport.

Personally I think you are crazy for even considering going to a wedding in Portugal 2 months post birth. Why put that pressure on yourself? Stay at home.

That age they're going to be pretty much portable, so don't worry too much about the baby, other than watching the heat issue.

As for me, I was fit for nothing a couple of months after giving birth, no way I'd have been up for a weekend in Portugal, and I'm still not back in my trousers a decade later! There's no way of knowing on that front, but don't give yourself the added pressure - it could be a good time to embrace the floaty dress from a heat/comfort perspective.

It's not something I'd be very excited to do, but you know you best and how you feel and it's doable if you've got the will. Passport is a v good point, check out timings on that.

It sounds lovely! My BIL went transatlantic with his 2 month old to Texas and they said it was one of the best holidays they ever had! Baby was transportable and much easier to feed etc than when she was a bit older, the heat wasn't an issue as everywhere is air conditioned unlike in the UK in summer.

In terms of outfits, what about a jumpsuit? Or play suit? If you're BFing you can get good "feeding friendly" ones

I traveled long haul with baby of that age and they can be really easy or really difficult.
If EBF then even easier. No bottles or other paraphernalia. Go for this if you can.
Also breastfeeding helps during flying because of pressure changes eased by sucking.
My babies were great with flying (I've had 5) but all EBF.
Apart from one I was back pre-pregnancy weightat that stage, but not necessarily shape! Your hips will be wider for instance. It should be easy to get lovely silk or linen trousers and a beautiful top which will flatter you and you can feed in.
Seriously I wouldn't worry overly but I think this may be different if you formula feed as there seems to be a lot of advance planning and purchasing for that and being abroad is a whole extra headache.

Travelling with a 2m old I found a doddle. Feeding wise, if you don’t bf you can get the pre-made bottles and it’s no more faff than pouring yourself G&T on a plane. You can take as much as you like for the plane and put the rest in the hold. Car seats can also be put in the hold, then you can use it for the trip to the airport and when you get there. You might want to bring a pram so they have somewhere to sleep at the wedding, if not just take the sling. I didn’t expect to be in my pre-maternity clothes at 2m, but literally nobody will be worried about that, if you are get a smart tunic or similar if you don’t want to wear a dress. I gave birth in a UK heatwave - hotter than Portugal at the time and was all fine, less clothes to have to dress them in! I had a C section and was fine after day 3, but not sure how it would be with a vaginal birth as some of my friends had complications after. Travelling when they are tiny is so much easier and I wished I made more of it!! Good luck, you’ll have a great time!!

You need to consider - if baby arrives late, then you need an appointment to register the birth. Then you need to apply for a passport. It could be tight !
