Lochia Blood starting up again

Hi everyone
I'm 3 weeks PP after a C-section. Everything lochia wise was fine until Saturday, when I passed a 1p sized clot and had some (not heavy at all) blood. I was a bit worried but didn't message my HV or anyone. Because nobody needs that at Christmas.

Anyway. Today it started going back to normal and I was just having clear discharge until just now. Went to the loo and passed another clot (smaller than a penny) and blood. The type of clots I wouldn't bat an eye at if I had just started a period. But now I'm not sure. I had a particularly big sneeze today, and my dog (chihuahua) has stood on my stomach. If that helps.
I have a midwife appointment on Wednesday and will ask then. But just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

It's still probably your Lochranza but that's a chance that it's your AF starting.

I didn't have a c section, but I had something a bit similar except it was part of the placenta that was retained. I was in the shower and felt something a bit odd after a cough. Then the water started filling up the plug hole instead of draining away.

Anyway, it turned out I had passed something flat but the size of my palm, and it wouldn't go down the plug. I kept it to show my midwife and she said it was retained placenta.

Bit different sorry but all was well.

My Lochia almost stops at 3 weeks then appears to start up again at just before 5 weeks. It’s actually my period.
Even when exclusively breastfeeding my period returns as soon as it possibly can 😏

PritiPatelsMaker · 27/12/2022 15:08

Opine that's rubbish. My DFriend has BF 4 and the longest she's gone without AF is 4 weeks.

It's really bad luck Flowers

Opine · 27/12/2022 17:53

@PritiPatelsMaker I also have 4. Even BF twins didn’t keep it away. No pumping, no bottles… 🤷🏽‍♀️
I definitely ovulate too. On the other hand my sister doesn’t have a period until she completely stops. She has managed two years without one.

She has managed two years without one. that's just not fair!

This was my initial thought. But then I remembered (well my OH reminded me), that there was something amiss with my placenta (I never found out what, so it can't have been massively wrong) so when they cut it out they were quite careful with it so they could check it out. So I don't think any could have been left. I was offered a look. But I said point-blank no. Couldn't cope with seeing that bleugh

Maybe, but I don't have any of the other symptoms I'd usually have like cramps and backpain.
I'm just so confused!

Hi OP I didn’t have a C-section but I do remember that my bleeding stopped but for the first few weeks it would start again if I over did it. From what I read at the time this seems pretty normal. So if you have been doing a bit more that might be why.

DiddlyDoris · 06/01/2023 22:33

4 weeks PP and mine hasn't stopped at all. That doesn't look so normal compared to other comments..? It eases a bit during the day then goes heavier. I passed a huge clot that I felt fall out into the loo the other day (sorry, tmi!). The midwife felt it's heavier on days when I'm doing too much maybe.

Maybe. I spoke to my midwife after this post and she wasn't concerned about my bleeding and said any mild ish bleeding and smaller (less than a golf ball) sized clot could happen for 6 weeks and can most definitely start again if I've done more... Even pushing the pram!

But, that's my symptoms. As yours are slightly different, I stil wouldn't worry much, but I'd see your midwife or HV or doctor just to be sure.

Anything within 6 weeks of birth is classed within postpartum bleeding, even if it stops and starts. It doesn’t happen like this with every woman but it isn’t unusual
