Anal fissure 2 weeks postpartum

Hey everyone

Well, I’ve been constipated due to having iron tablets throughout my third trimester, during labour I had loose stools but then went back to constipation a day after birth.

I didn’t get any fissures from pregnancy constipation but I don’t know if childbirth has made my bottom weak/sensitive because I have now developed a fissure!!

I thought it was a one off painful poo but no, it continued and I actually felt a rip and bleed yesterday and since then my 2 bowel movements today have also been painful, first one bled a little less than it did yesterday. And second one didn’t bleed but HURT.

I feel quite upset tbh. I feel like it’s just been one thing after the other since giving birth. My stitches have healed and now my bum is ripped. I’m so so fed up. I want to enjoy our new little addition but I just can’t deal with pain every single day. Every single bowel movement.
It seems as though fissures don’t always heal and that scares me.
I’ve just picked up lactulose which GP prescribed, some kind of ointment (scheriproct) and some suppositories
Any positive stories about postpartum fissures?
Please give me some hope! I feel so down and helpless.

@Chlobob27 hi thank you so much for replying and sharing your tips. Im struggling so much with this im falling into depression. Its been nearly 2 years for me now. I know its a fissure but docs cant seem to see the fissure inside. But i remember a hard stool after birth ripping the area i have pain in. Can i ask how much ml of lactulose you take please. Im guessing you can take lactulose for years. And did you find it gave you loose/mushy type of stools...not so much diarhea. So glad to hear you have healed and hopefully it stays healed and gone forever.

@caringcarer hey i tried the fybogel but it kept making my stools have hard small lumps in it which kept retearing the fissure. However i havent tried orange juice with bits so will give that a go. Thank you xx

Yeah I am completely back to normal now, the rectogesic was a miracle worker

@mumof2bambinos I take 15ml morning and night. No, it doesn't give me diarrhea, it just keeps my stools soft. I would not be able to pass a stool without taking it. I'd become constipated straight away. I don't seem to have much muscle tone in that area anymore, so I have to let things happen naturally. I would struggle to push and of course it could re open the tear, so I avoid letting my stools become hard at all costs. I'm happy to take Lactulose for the rest of my life. It is a synthetic sugar and very little goes in to your bloodstream, as it's broken down by the bowel. It's not harmful.

@Chlobob27 i will try the 15ml morning and night. And thank you for explaining. I will happily take it all my life as i never want to feel the pain i have been in last few days again. Esp when i have 2 little ones to look after. I do want to have another child but this fissure is stopping me. Although a lot of people have said the fissure heals during pregnancy poss due to the extra blood flow x

Mine healed when I was pregnant with my second son, but it opened back up very quickly after the birth. Once the extra blood flow is gone, there's nothing to stop you re tearing. If you haven't already got a foot stool designed specifically for doing a poo, I would get one. I think that's helped me the most, along with the stool softener.

@Chlobob27 oh no! I suppose least it went during the pregnancy. Nothing worse than a fissure and pregnant. All tjat pressure. I recently had a sigmoidoscopy and it showed i have a small internal heamorroid but the pain im in i know its the fissure thats the problem even though the procedure didnt show a fissure. Thank you. Ive taken 15ml this morning so will drink lots today and see how i go with it. Tysm for all ur advice and for replying. Its not the easiest thing to talk about xx
