Getting mirena coil inserted- periods query

Hello, I am 3 months post partum, and I have been put on the waiting list for a mirena coil insertion. I forgot to ask, maybe someone on here would know. I haven't had a period yet after birth, and am quite enjoying that! If I get the coil in, will that kickstart my periods again? I know they will begin again anyway at some point, but just I'd rather have that later than sooner! Thanks for any advice.

I had one placed at 6 months post partum, in 2016. I have no had a period in all that time. One thing I will say though is that at under 6 months and if you’re breastfeeding there is a slightly higher risk of the IUD being embedded - that happened to me and removal and replacement was a pita and involved a general anaesthetic.

Ooohhh I didn't know that about it being imbedded. How did you know that had happened, awful pain I'm guessing?? Yes I am breastfeeding

I had a mirena fitted at about 10 weeks PP I was also EBF I was given no warnings it would be more likely to get embedded (surely if it was a common thing they'd warn you) and my periods didn't return until about 13 months PP so I wouldn't worry to much, it's still hands-down the best contraception I've ever used.

I've never given birth, but after years and years of horrific periods and trying all sorts of contraceptive pills and solutions I finally got a mirena coil 3 years ago. I have had 3 light periods in three years. I second @TheArtfulScreamer1 in saying it's the best contraception I've ever had and has really changed my quality of life.

Obviously the risk is still low, but it goes from something like 1/1000 to 5/1000.

I only found out when I tried to get mine removed - it took 3 failed attempts while awake (including a hysteroscopy). the research is fairly recent, last few years (indeed wouldn’t have been known when the last one was inserted)

Thank you for your comments.

@TheArtfulScreamer1 so when it was inserted, I'm assuming you bled for a bit until it settled down, and then nothing into 13 months?
