Hi everyone,

I am due December 3rd and really need to start getting at least semi prepared.
Does anyone have any must haves for immediately after birth?. More for my own personal care than our baby boys. Any advice would be MUCH appreciated. I don't want to spend a heap on useless products. I am realistic and know I am going to be in pain for some time after but anything that could help would be great.

Hi!
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I had my baby almost a year ago now and these were big must-haves for me postpartum:

  • donut cushion (I had an episiotomy and couldn't sit down without a donut cushion for 1-2 weeks).
  • if you don't have a bidet then fill a spray bottle with water and keep it in the bathroom. Then when you use the loo, you can spray water on yourself to help with the healing. Much more convenient than a sitz bath or shower etc.
  • haemorrhoid cream (if pregnancy hasn't given you piles already then birth is likely to)
  • handy reusable non-spill type bottle for your drinking water (especially if you're breastfeeding).
  • Nipple cream if you're breastfeeding.
  • I found wearing a support belt over my tummy helped as it ached for a few weeks. Not everyone needs this though so if you're interested then get a non-expensive one.
  • Batch cook and freeze meals in advance so you don't have to think about cooking when you've got a newborn.
  • If you wear makeup usually, find a tinted moisturiser/similar product that suits you so you can feel a bit more put-together with minimal effort even if you're low on time or sleep.

Toilet wipes, l used this after episiotomy as toilet paper is a no no.

Sanitary towels- kotex night towels as you will be bleeding so these hold up really well.

Batch cook like you've never cooked before ! I hate cooking now I have little time

Get a pamper box for you
Creams, tinted moisturiser, foot packs and hand packs etc

X
