Looks normal to me.

NiceTwin · 17/06/2022 02:35

Looks fine to me.

What are you seeing that worries you?

Firsttimemomma2022 · 17/06/2022 19:02

Doctor said her skull feels fused but he wasn't qualified in that area and said I need an extra opinion but we've felt her head and it feels open to us so I'm seeing if her Head looks normal to others

@Firsttimemomma2022
Shes a beautiful baby. I know you are overjoyed with her.

Have a Google at craniosynostosis. Look at images and see if your DD's head looks similar to any of the photos. It might help put your mind at ease or help you decide if she needs to see a specialist.

Firsttimemomma2022 · 18/06/2022 16:08

Thank you so much, to start with I already googled all these images of craniosynostosis and her head did look like it was shaped like a like a lot of the babies who had this condition but her head seems to have changed since then and since the doctor checked her head so I'm not 100% sure, waiting for a drs appointment and they haven't got back to me and I'm always worried about it

I can imagine.. We even worry about a little scratch on our babies!
My 2 nephews, 2 and 4 both needed to wear helmets as their heads were misshapen. They can through it like champs..the helmets never bothered them one bit. Babies are resilient little people. Maybe take a photograph from the top of DDs head looking down on her skull. This can be for reference if you takes these photos about every 2 weeks to see if there are any changes.
Try not to worry...this can be fixed and babies bounce back quickly if intervention needs to be done.💐
P.S. this has been being treated since the 60's. I had a school friend who had surgery for it and he turned out to be the smartest boy in our class and has a very successful life.

AnyFucker · 18/06/2022 17:25

To be on the safe side, your baby needs a skull X-ray to make sure the sutures of the skull have not fused prematurely. It is very unlikely but the sooner treatment is started the better.
If they haven’t then the head shape will naturally improve with time.

Firsttimemomma2022 · 18/06/2022 18:25

Thank you for this message it is very reassuring, I am ready if she will end up needing surgery but I don't think any mother wants there baby to be in that condition after treatment as the swollen eyes and huge scar on top of her head would break my heart, but it it needs to be done then I'll definitely have to :)

This is what the thread is about, the doctor said he thought part of her skull had fused prematurely but he couldn't be certain so referred me but I've heard nothing back from the hospital and he said it was nothing for me to worry about

Find out where you have been referred to and ring the secretary/admin of the dept. Or ask your gp to chase it up for you. Your baby is very young yet but there is a certain degree of time limitation regarding an optimum time for surgery (if IF she needs it). The sooner you know the better.

Firsttimemomma2022 · 23/06/2022 02:13

I've posted a thread about this already but has anyone elses 3 month old had a head like this ? Appointments are fully booked in my area so haven't gotten in to see a specialist about her head yet, a few weeks ago the back part was rounded and looked like possible craniosynostosis, I'm trying my hardest not to stress as I feel her head looks more normal now? Can anyone give me some postive feedback about her head please possibly a nurse or someone who specializes in baby's heads. Thank you worried momma

Hi@Firsttimemomma2022
Me again...I saw you weren't getting many answers so I searched craniosynostosis on mumsnet and there are a few threads from the past. Most of the mums were like you...they felt something wasn't quite right about their baby's head eventhough the GPs said they were fine and would out grow it. But, the mums pushed further for a diagnosis and it was discovered that their baby did have premature fusion.
I dont know how to attach links so I've screenshot a couple threads and also a website and a photo of the different shapes of heads.
I hope this helps at least a little bit so you can find some answers, even if it's just to bump your thread. Take careFlowers

Here's the cranio website...someone on a thread mentioned the people here are brilliant at suggesting how to get referrals.
The photo looks cut off, but it's not. Mainly I just wanted to show you the Website address.

Thank you so much I hsve never worried about her head or it's shaped until a doctor who wasn't qqualified in the area told me he thought it was prematurely fused but rushed me out of there with no explanation and told me not to worry about it because she seems fine, back then her head did look alien but looks so much more normal to everyone now

That's reassuring that baby DDs head shape seems to be sorting itself now. That's great news!

Hi! Hope things are going wellFlowers

Firsttimemomma2022 · 29/07/2022 22:23

Thank you so much for asking, I have been told that it has to be graded so only time will tell wether she will need any type of surgery, she is doing really well apart from her 3rd set of vaccinations making her poorly, hope you are well 😊

@Firsttimemomma2022
All is well here in the US, thank youFlowers
I'm glad to hear your little doll is doing well! I know you are enjoying her more every day. Yes, those vaccinations are hard for little ones, and also for mummies to watch when they are given to baby.😭.
Fingers crossed for good news with her measurements and grading...it's amazing the excellent outcomes these days. My Dnephew is turning 4 soon and has done really well.Football he's even started violin lessons!
Take care little mummy Flowers

Firsttimemomma2022 · 30/07/2022 18:02

Firsttimemomma2022 · 29/09/2022 20:30

Hello thank you for getting in contact that's honestly very sweet of you, I came back from the children's hospital the other day and her skull is in fact fused prematurely they believe only one skull bone has fused our next steps are scans and surgery, any reassurance or support would be very helpful because I am so scared of the pain she is going to be in afterwards, hope you are well ❤
