Sore feet in mornings

Hi,
I had my first baby 10 weeks ago and had really bad edema swelling at the end of the pregnancy and in the first couple of weeks after the birth, my feet went up nearly 2 sizes. The swelling has calmed down now and they’re back to their normal size more or less, but they’re so sore if I stand after sitting/lying for some time. So first thing in the morning is agony, I’m literally limping to the kitchen to make baby’s bottle! Just wondered if anyone else has had this and if it’s normal, or if I should be speaking to my GP about it.

Do you think it could be plantar fasciitis?

Washaday · 08/06/2022 14:18

Plantar fascitis was my first thought, is it your heels in particular?

Samanabanana · 08/06/2022 14:18

I had this after my first, I had a severe vitamin D deficiency and was prescribed some mega liquid vitamin D capsules. I also had really flat arches after pregnancy so wore insoles and decent shoes/slippers and this really helped too. It didn't happen after my second pregnancy though!

Yes heels and balls of feet! I’ve never heard of plantar fasciitis, will look it up now. Thank you!

If it is PF the main thing is to never be in bare feet. Even going to the loo in the middle of the night I now put my indoor sketchers on! The good news is that (for me anyway) the pain can literally disappear overnight.

You can also just have sore parts readjusting after the extra weight and different weight distribution during pregnancy. An osteopath or deep tissue masseuse should be able to help if it's something like that.

That’s it, being in bare feet seems to make it worse! I rush to put my slippers on as it provides some relief! Thanks, I have a health visit tomorrow so will mention it to her and look into insoles or something as well.

If it is PF then wearing supportive footwear indoors at all times and gentle stretching exercises will really help.
