Postnatal weight loss

I am 8 weeks pp and am really struggling to lose the weight. I ate like an absolute pig during pregnancy and gained a total of 4 stone. 2 stone has come off following birth, but I still have 2 stone to lose to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight.

For the past 4 weeks I have been eating healthily. My appetite has also nosedived following the birth so some days I only eat one meal. I eat a low carb Mediterranean style diet. However the weight is not coming off as I would like. I have lost 2lb in the past month. I am overweight so it’s not as if I don’t have the weight to lose. I have been going on pram walks for exercise.

Has anyone else found losing weight pp a struggle? Could it be a hormone issue? I have dieted a lot in my life and don’t think I have ever found it this difficult to shift a few pounds!

Are you breastfeeding? My body clung on to weight while I was breastfeeding. I didn't lose any till after I'd stopped.

I am 7 months pp and my weight is only just returning to close to my original weight (I gained 14kg). You're only 8 weeks pp, that's really not much time, so don't be hard on yourself, also losing 2st is a lot in such a short space of time 🙌🏻 it's normal for the total weight loss to take a while, mine was very gradual.

I recommend you eat more actually, if you're only going on one meal a day at times then your body is actually going to hang on to every calorie it can get hold of when you do eat, it's not a recommended way to lose weight.

Maybe you could take a photo of yourself once a week or so and track your progress visually, sometimes it's easier to notice the weight loss that way.

Get your GP to check your thyroid levels. About 1/5 of women suffer hyper or hypothyroidism following pregnancy. It's just from all of your hormones bring a bit out of whack. If your thyroid is underactive, you'll find it very hard to loose weight.

I hope this helps. Best of luck!
