Periods after emergency c-section

Hello!Smile

Hoping other emergency c-section or elective section mums can offer me some advice or put my mind at ease. Smile

I had an emergency cesarian 4 months ago (my second child) and didn’t have the smoothest recovery. Everything seems to be much better now and has been for about 7-8 weeks but ever since my section, my periods have been so so heavy and sooooo much more painful than usual. And also they’re irregular/out of the norm time-wise as I had one 3 weeks ago but have already started another one a few days ago.

My periods returned to normal after my first labour which was vaginal, so I’m wondering if it’s normal after a section to have heavier periods? Or if I should speak to my doctor about it. Ibuprofen-Lysine used to completely get rid of my period pains but since my section, I’m still in quite a lot of pain and unable to do normal things even if I take them and paracetamol at the same time as well. Confused

So I guess my question is to any mums who have had a cesarian section, did it change your periods and make them a lot more heavy and painful? Confused

Thanks to anyone who can share their experience!

Mine were heavier and initially for the first few months my c section scar felt tight and had a really dull ache when I had a period.

They gradually got better, can't remember how long it took for them to go back to normal. My LO is now 14 months.

I've had four sections and didn't really notice a difference, but I have always had heavy painful periods anyway. After my fourth they went a lot worse and I get prescribed cocodamol off the doctor for the pain, but I think the difference is that I was sterilised after that one so I think that is what is making them heavier.

The advice I always follow, is when I ask myself 'should I speak to a GP about this', then the answer is always 'yes'. Don't leave any doubt with your health, especially so soon after giving birth. (After my emergency section my periods were slightly heavier but no pain and were regular).
