'Down there' after birth

I had my baby 6 days ago, delivered very quickly but naturally

I have had stitches but unsure how many

They felt ok until Sunday when I passed a large clot which has now basically stopped my PP bleeding, my midwife isn't overly concerned but has obviously said anymore clots I must see someone but I am worried about lack of bleeding after just 6 days - I bled for weeks with my son, I'm worried I'm clotting again as it's so little

Secondly, When I had my DS I had an episiotomy and know I was on codeine for at least 3 weeks so wondering if what I'm feeling is because I'm on lesser pain relief (just standard paracetamol and ibuprofen) and admittedly I'm not keeping up with it regularly, my bits just feel....slimy and swollen but I do admit it improves when I take pain relief (not fully however - is this all normal? Should I be worrying about a prolapse? Or am I being a worrier?!

Are you still under the midwives? If so ask them to have a look when they come round. My midwife checked my stitches for me.

redandwhite1 · 01/03/2022 09:47

Yeah still under them, last one is on Monday, they offered to check on day 1 but I said it was ok. Annoyed with myself I didn't ask her to look yesterday but in my head I was hoping she'd offer

Doing pelvic floor exercises the last 24 hours like my life depends on it

Bump in case anyone else has any advice on either

Kept up with pain killers today so I think my 'feeling' may still be swelling as it feels better for sure

I only bled for ten days or so - I always had light periods so that fitted. So six days doesn’t seem impossible but def check it all with the midwife on Monday.

I bled for almost three weeks with both children. Started very heavy then got lighter and light as time went on, so 6 days seems really little to me! It's worth asking for an examination to make sure everything is healing as expected, though it's more than likely absolutely fine.

Purplepussycat · 01/03/2022 20:14

I didn’t bleed very much with any of my 3 but dint have very heavy period either and the generally stop at night aswell

redandwhite1 · 01/03/2022 20:46

Now people have said that my periods were always super light some months non existent

Glad I have one more visit due so will check with the MW

I bled for far less time with my second DC than the first, altho I can't remember exactly how long for.

How are you feeding baby? Is it different from your first baby?

mswales · 01/03/2022 21:12

That all sounds well within the range of normal. A prolapse doesn't feel like what you describe, you can feel it quite distinctly, it wojmd be a bulge coming from inside the vagina. (I'm 3 weeks post partum and had stitches and a similar clot to you after a similar time, and I have a prolapse. I was able to feel the prolapse after about five days)

The same but totally different births (assisted with first and not with second)

Ok, that's interesting, I have read average time lines and I think I'm comparing with my first far too much

Hope you can get the prolapse sorted (unless it already has been)
