Pelvic Organ Prolapse

I am 2 and a half weeks PP with my second baby. Really quick and easy birth and felt great within days after, however a few days ago I had a look down below as I felt a bit uncomfortable and there is quite a noticeable bulge at the opening which I am 99% sure is a Prolapse.

I am finding there is constant pressure now if I am sitting or standing and it's making me so uncomfortable. I have a 2.5 year old DD as well as the new baby and it's really getting me down thinking about how this is going to impact my life with them. I am terrified to lift my toddler or do anything that might make things worse.

Haven't been to the GP yet as I have covid atm. Just looking for some reassurance as it's really terrifying me!

Hi op,

I am 5 weeks pp and had similar feeling to yourself, slight uncomfortable awareness of something when moving walking. It is still really early days in terms of recovery, what I done was calmed down walking and doing any activities which could cause strain and Everytime I feed the baby I do pelvic florr exercises, then in the evenings I do some floor pelvic floor exercises on a yoga mat. Also do not look again down below until another few months because you need to give yourself time to heal and settle it will change.

I feel that I was on my feet to much in the early days which hasn't helped and so now doing all the above I no longer have an uncomfortable feeling down below but I'm not there yet. I will continue and then at my 8 weeks GP check up ask to be checked over to make sure all looks well.

Honestly we expect things to pop back into place but it really takes time in the mean time relax and focus on pelvic floor exercises and not causing any strain.

@HPmagic Thank you, it's really reassuring to know I am not alone. I definitely think I overdone it a bit the few days after giving birth and kicking myself, but hoping it is all fixable.

I have started doing pelvic floor exercises and booked in with GP to examine everything next week. Just need to step away from Google and stop checking with a mirror as it's consuming me!

Hopefully we'll both see a lot of improvements soon. Congratulations on your baby by the way 😊

I had this after my second birth. I was diagnosed with prolapses of the bladder, bowel and uterus and was referred to a physio and did all the exercises. I also bought a Kegal 8 machine and followed the advice on the Hab-it website. Everything healed up over time. It's related to hormones - several months after birth you're very low in oestrogen and this makes the vagina walls weaker. You also have high levels of a hormone called relaxin after birth which makes everything a bit more floppy down there! Your oestrogen levels will stay low until you finish breastfeeding. I finished breastfeeding after 7 months and noticed a big improvement in my prolapses following that. Everything almost felt completely normal after 11 months. I've heard internal healing can take around a year or more. My prolapses have healed 90% but are still there and I'm likely to notice them more after the menopause (again because of low oestrogen). I just don't notice them at all anymore. They make no difference to my life whatsoever. I was like you when I discovered my prolapses - I was so scared and terrified of lifting my children, carrying heavy shopping, being constipated etc but now I never even think of therm. Try not to worry OP. I know it's scary at first but you'll heal up over time.

@SallyWD That is so reassuring to hear, thank you for sharing! I just want to get to an point where I don't worry about it constantly so it's reassuring to know that's possible and I just need to give myself time to heal. I am currently breastfeeding and hope to do it for a while yet, so good to know there will maybe be more improvement later down the line too. Thanks again!
