Hello,

I recently gave birth 2 months ago and have now noticed both my nipples invert slightly (like slits). One of them is slightly sunken more than the other. This only happens when I'm laying down or wearing a bra. I'm not breastfeeding. I went to the doctor who checked me for lumps etc and said she wasn't concerned. She said it could be hormonal and maybe the new normal for me. It might be something that was always there but I'm just more aware now.
I'm just concerned as I know it's a sign of breast cancer however she reassured me she wasn't concerned. Has anyone else experienced this? Don't know whether to get a second opinion or take her word for it.

Thanks in advance

Generally if a change happens to both breasts around the same time, it's less likely to be breast cancer.

You are obviously entitled to seek a second (medical, and not mine) opinion!

@CharlieBH
I saw a weird spot on my breast, GP examined me and said it's not cancer, nothing to worry about. So I would say take your doctor's first word too as a basic understanding of things, so you don't get anxious about it. I went to the same GP again for the same thing, the GP said the same thing, nothing to worry about.

I would say book another appointment with the same doctor who previously checked you.

One of my nipples changed during late pregnancy and went inverted. I went to the gp and midwife and the gp referred me to the breast clinic, 2 week wait.

I did a similar post on here at the time and a commenter said they experienced the same and it is probably hormonal.

I think I was only referred to the breast clinic to be on the safe side, gp’s can’t be 100% sure unless it’s looked at.

I had the most anxious 2 weeks waiting for the appointment, the clinician gave me a scan and confirmed me there is nothing to worry about. It was just a change during pregnancy where my nipple had kind of sucked in. She said a breast pump or baby latching might pressure it out but this hasn’t happened for me, still half stuck! But nothing to worry about.

Try not to worry too much (I know this is easier said!), I think this is fairly common! I know it’s easier said. Might be worth asking if your gp could refer you just to put your mind at ease?
