Just wanted to know how others have found being on setraline? Ive just taken my first one today and I'm terrfied of side effects and that it may not work.
I've been battling PND for nearly 4 months - its taken me til now to recognise what was happening and seek help. I want to be hopeful but pretty scared - does anyone have any positive stories for me or advice to help me out please? X

Hope you're getting on ok with the sertraline OP ? Thanks

I took it for a few months for PND it was honestly the best decision I ever made. The first couple of weeks were tough I won't lie I probably felt worse at first (increased anxiety at first, felt abit sick/dizzy/funny tummy) which is really common but it was v short lived and then I started to feel better and i guess it didn't take my problems away but it felt like things couldn't touch me or make me anxious in the same way. Keep in touch with your gp mine was really reassuring and supportive which helped a lot x

I took sertraline for PND, it was the first time I had ever needed anti depressants and they, along with cbt, helped enormously.

I did struggle with nausea when first taking them but it was well worth it.

Well done for asking for help, I found this very hard. Look after yourself.

It didn’t work for me and the psych changed it to venlafaxine which did work. If this doesn’t suit you, keep trying because SOMETHING will work and this will pass.

@milkieway @MrsWooster @INeedtobealone thank you all so much for your posts. At the moment Im 3 days in and havent noticed anything too bad (yet).
It was the hardest thing to admit and honestly MN has helped so much as I've realised just how common it is, and also how treatable it is too!
Hope you're all having lovely weekends Flowers

Hi @Cantgetausername87, how are you getting on? I think I may be in a position to try antidepressants for PND but terrified of all the same things as you.

milkieway · 30/11/2021 07:32

Hope you're doing ok @Cantgetausername87

@sadmad I hope you're ok - I was scared too but I wouldn't hesitate to take them again if I needed to, hope you have a nice supportive GP as this made all the difference

@milkieway @sadmad thank you for checking in on me -I'm nearly a month in now and starting to feel better - but a little way to go still.
I honestly didnt notice any side effects which surprised me! My GP has been great at checking in with me regularly- because of the pandemic everything was done over the phone which i preferred to a.face to face as I would struggle with that!
I am starting to see PND as the chemical imbalance which it is and not some dark and shameful thing -I can also see the light and way out of this! I just wish I had got help sooner.
@sadmad if I can help at all please PM me Id be happy to chat. Once again thankyou everyone for your support.x

@Cantgetausername87 I know a few people who have taken setraline and a lot say it numbs out feeling those feelings, it numbs out the depression emotions. But then there are some side effects, for some people it's nothing much, for some it can cause sick feelings. Before pregnancy, years back, I was given fluoxetine (prozac) and it numbed out the sad feelings but it gave me chest pains and breathlessness, I had to phone 111 and I missed work. My doctor said stick to talking therapy. Years later, fast forward to now, I have PND and my other doctor spotted it and referred me to perinatal team. I am so embarrassed of my PND, I feel like a loser Sad

@Cantgetausername87 hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread. I started 50mg of sertraline on Friday so have taken 4 so far. I'm absolutely shattered. It feels like first trimester fatigue plus the nausea. I've hardly been able to eat anything and am still BF so feel quite lightheaded too. I'm not entirely sure what I weighed a week ago but weighed myself this morning and I'm under 9st for the first time in about 10 years, I don't want to was the away! Did you have any of this? Did it pass? I want to give it a fair go so would be good to know it eases off.
