Abdomen muscle separation (diastasis recti)

Is anyone else still dealing with muscle separation on the abdomen months after delivery? (also known as diastasis recti).

How did you get it sorted properly?

Yep - I’m four month postpartum and still have a 3 finger gap. I’m seeing an NHS women’s health physio and following Mutu online. Feel stronger but can’t see any results so far…

I’m 18 years later and still have it….! Have had periods of trying to sort it out, some done exercises etc but it remains. I’ve just learnt to live with it.

I am seven months post delivery.

I had a 3 finger gap at my belly button, and a two finger gap further up. I’ve been working with a women’s physio who has me doing exercises for it. I went for my first follow up this week and I’ve gone to a 2 finger gap at my belly button, and a 1-1.5 finger gap further up. Still a way to go but physio is helping.

Do you have someone near you who does a mummy mot?

Physio

Specialist physio sorted mine. My youngest was 3 before I dealt with it so it took a whole. It's now closed as well as it ever will (not noticeable to anyone but me, I had washboard abs before DC Grin).

Highly recommend the Every Mother app, you have to pay but it made a massive difference to me. I started with the Early Postpartum course (despite youngest being 4!) and just doing that improved things significantly. It's 10 minutes of "core compressions" a day. I did have some NHS physio prior to the course which helped too as I knew I was engaging the correct muscles. Might be worth seeing if your GP can refer you? But think the little and often approach of the app was better than physio once every couple of weeks.
Good luck

I did ten minutes of Pilates minimum everyday for a year. Much improved.

Dahliadelight · 30/10/2021 22:53

I had a Pilates teacher to start, then watched YouTube videos. I now do core exercises twice a week.

Pilates / specialist physio.

Mutu sorted it for me. It's an online programme

11 years on and still separated. I had physio which closed it, then another baby which re-opened it, then resumed physio to sort it once and for all, as no further babies planned. Good to begin with, but have noticed that physio is only as good as my ability to never stop doing the exercises; if I stop for just a while, I notice the separation creeping back in quite quickly.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 31/10/2021 09:18

Mine was so severe I could get my whole fist in the gap.

Took nine months of weekly physio, plus daily exercises, to sort it.
