Moro Reflex scaring baby

Hi all,

Wanted to see if anyone had any experience of this before I spoke to HV. Basically I was changing my 8 week old daughters nappy this morning and the Moro reflex kicked in but it lasted for ages and it really scared her- she started to really cry and I had to pick her up to soothe her. I found this video online and this is basically what happened although she didn't go bright red. But there was a fearful look on her face.

Is this normal? Has anyone experienced it before?

Thanks!!

When dd2 was about2 months old I got really worried that she was having lots of Moro reflexes in a row which made her distressed and (inspired by a thread here) I got anxious about Infantile Spasms and took her tothe GP who happily referred her for a check because it is so important to catch early if it IS that.

The consultant asked for a video of her doing it, so good to get one/some if you can, but was very reassuring about the fact that it was just standard, if a little alarming, and very much reassured me. She is nearly two now and grew out of it not long after I saw the consultant. So what I'm saying is it's probably nothing and will pass, but don't hesitate to get further reassurance if you feel something might be wrong.

Thank you so much for your reply. We haven't seen anything today and I actually think it may have been because the mat I put him On was so cold so a big shock to the system. I'm going to try and get it on camera if it happens again and show the docs. Thank you x
