Irregular periods/ postpartrum and breastfeeding

So I posted the other week as my periods seemed to return 5 months after having my baby

He is EBF but unlike his brother sucks his thumb for comfort and sleeps better at night so can go 7/8 hours at night with no feed and only feeds every 3/4 hours in the day
Hes a big boy 98th percentile so obviously gets enough despite not feeding as much as My 1st

Anyway this 1st period was the period from hell and I ended up seeing gynaecology
Examination cervix looks health no infection and clear smear 6 weeks ago so they said it was consistent with a heavy period
It ended after 6 days and i hoped all would be OK

But its now 2 weeks since the start of that nightmare period and I'm bleeding again quite heavy like another period and very crampy

Has this happened to any one else ?
Doc not concerned and says it can happen but I'm scared it's cancer

I'm 30 BTW.. periods normal pre this baby and conceived both children easily and never ever have I experienced any irregular bleeding before

Not much to offer in terms of advice.

Do you mean your period returned 5 weeks postpartum? 5 months would be very normal.

5 months yes but I'm EBF although he does go long gaps without a feed

They are just much heavier than anything I've ever experienced horrific
Doc /gynane just saying it happens and will settle down
Won't scan me as said internal all looks healthy and it's a normal issue after having a baby
