Broken coccyx severe pain back to back Labour

I do not know where best to post this so apologies if it's in the wrong place!!

I had my daughter 2 years ago, awful birth back to back, wedged abs ended up with searing coccyx pain which I still have! I thought it was doing very well until I went for a bike ride last wknd which kicked off the pain whicu eased off I went again on a bike this morning! Took it steady and was only out for an hour but omg the pain is something else!!

My questions are has anyone else gone through this? Did you end up having surgery to get the coccyx removed? Did it affect how you felt generally after the birth like energy to support
Your child?

spoke to doctors about 6 mth ago and told there is nothing they can do, that it just takes time but this isn't normal! Trust me this isn't normal and god the pain for wks after I have birth was horrendous, I'm struggling to sit down at work, office based 5 dpwk without a valley cushion I'd be doomed! I feel knackered all the time and it's impacting on my energy to take care of my daughter, surely this isn't normal!!

I broke mine in labour too. It's a truly awful pain, gnawing. After many years of nothing from GP, I eventually got an appointment with a consultant at the pain clinic. She gave me a caudal epidural and it has reduced the pain. The first few weeks after were awful as the pain increased but then I started to notice I was doing more, walking further etc. I also use a sacral belt around my hips and find I have to swim to keep everything tight as the looser my muscles get the worse the pain is. Pain also worse before my period. I have permanent scars from hot water bottle burns. A tens machine will change the pain message for a short time and foam rolling helps. I'm waiting for some sort of nerve burn thing as I responded to the epidural well. I'm reluctant to have the coccyx removed as the success rate isn't great. I hope you find some relief soon.

@bluedomino

Wow you've been through it with this haven't you, it's unbelievable though the pain, I just feel so fed up, I feel like this issue has maybe been a big part of why I've been struggling so much with motherhood I mean it's been exhausting as I had a terrible start. When I first had Bethany I had take fibregel stuff for a few months and the pain when I had gas omg I was literally screaming, that did stop after a few months but it was as though the coccyx tore through tissue or muscle I don't know but did you get that also? I just went for a bike ride for less than an hour and I'm gonna pay for it for the next week or two, just such a pain in the ass! I will have to press for pain relief as I can't continue with this it's just wearing me down. I feel sorry for my daughter motherhood has just sucked the energy I used to have anyway as my LG was also never a great sleeper until this last couple of months, and she's extremely High energy too I feel like the walking dead. Taking loads of supplements co enzyme 10, curcumin, b12, vit c etc but just feel like I'm 50% capacity a lot of time, sorry I've gone on just Dont know if it's normal to feel this tired and the coccxy just so peed off, when they took me to theatre wish they could have just put me on my side they reckon giving birth flat on your back is worst for it which I was in theatre as my baby got stuck had been turned. Pffffft what a journey x

You need a really padded ladies bike seat. Bizarrely I do find biking helps, it's almost like it works the really deep muscles and stops bones moving about! I'm hypermobile too though. I often sleep on a tennis ball wedged slightly to the left of my coccyx, to numb the nerve. It's probably a really bad thing to do but the sciatic pain is like torture. I also sometimes use a Salonplas patch stuck right on my coccyx. It's a herbal type plaster. It feels different and changes the nerve message slightly. When you are desperate you will do anything. Stretching and exercise do help, but I also take morphine as I have other joint pain issues. My GP (male) called me a malingerer. Why he thinks I would make up this passion is beyond me. It rules my life and has robbed me of earning and security. I would definitely agree that lying on your back for childbirth is the most ridiculous thing, only done for the midwifes convenience. No animal would give birth like that. I wanted to get on my knees but felt I couldn't ask the midwife. My advice to other women is don't get pregnant as it wrecks your body!!!

bluedomino · 14/07/2021 15:09

Oops make up pain not passion. Unfortunately.

I broke my coccyx in labour too - although my midwife didn't believe me and said I was just making a fuss. As soon as I was discharged I went to get an x-ray and yes, it was broken! I took about four years for it to get back to normal. In the end I didn't do any of the therapies that were suggested as no-one could guarantee that it wouldn't actually make things worse. I also had a c-section the next time round as the doctor said it was possible I would break it again as it wasn't aligned. My advice would be to avoid uncomfy saddles but also don't rush into any treatments that might make it worse - sorry!

Agreed. I had a very fast, uncontrolled induced labour and I was made to lay flat on my back. I think this is why it happened.

bluedomino · 14/07/2021 16:48

Yes, I had a c section second time around. And jolly civilised it was too. My midwife didn't believe I was having such horrendous pain in my back too, she said some people labour in their back, whatever the hell that meant. She refused me any pain relief, broken coccyx, episiotomy, 3rd degree tear and a haemorrhage. My midwives were cold, nasty unfeeling women. I'm reminded of them everytime I see a programme about those evil nuns from the 1950s/60s with the unmarried women in Ireland. I found the whole thing so traumatic, I think I had undiagnosed PND afterwards. It is so exhausting when GPs don't believe you. Sorry for the moan.

DottyHarmer · 14/07/2021 16:54

I thought I was the only person who got a broken coccyx! The pain was something else for a while, but it did after a few years disappear.

Studiodoll · 14/07/2021 17:00

Yes happened to me. Went untreated for 5 years as doctors kept saying it was my weight that was causing me pain. I had to leave my job as I literally couldn't sit down. Going from sitting to standing was agony too. I was eventually referred for physio, had a few dry needling treatments, didn't work. I did manage to lose weight and the pain gradually improved. But it easily took 7 years, I still get the odd little niggle though.

itscomplicatedlife · 16/07/2021 23:04

@bluedomino heyyy awww your not moaning merely stating how it is, so refreshing to hear your experience and I'm sorry you had a crap time too! I know it would happen I spent ages trying to get her to go back to back as knew they turn in Labour, she'd been in the correct position for wks it was obvious what was gonna happen! Just can't believe they didn't listen! I remember pushing and nothing was happening and I was so out of it, had I not been so knackered I'd have screamed at them shes bloody stuck thats why my freakin' back on one side is killing me! Get in there and sort
It bloody out ☹️ it's just caused me no end of issues! My arse still wreaks a wk on, I've got a Jew padded seat fingers crossed it helps and I'm afraid the dohnut cushion is gonna have to go work with me from now on too but will be more comfy woohooo!! If I ever do this again I will push for c section i couldn't bear that again

LBOCS2 · 16/07/2021 23:18

Yep, same. It took a good three years to get better, but it's completely gone now. For a while I couldn't sit at my desk at all and going to the cinema was agony, but at some point between DD1 and 2 it went and I've not had it since.

Problem100 · 17/07/2021 11:14

It's actually crazy that it takes so long to heal too. I'm the only person in real life that it's happened too.

itscomplicatedlife · 20/07/2021 22:00

@LBOCS2 sounds like the second may have moved it back to its proper place such a relief

In agony most of the wks as work full time
Office too, have requested p/t today can't stand it anymore plus the 9pm bedtimes due to nursery letting dd nap too long past 2pm also I'm knackered

@Problem100 I know me too! It's vile isn't it.
I had the most severe pain after birth for about 3 months even passing wind I would scream so loud it was excruciating I didn't even scream like that in Labour it was like something was perforated! Sorry to be graphic but no one even like asked me about it, saw dr who told me it's normal takes yrs to heal nothing to be done! Thanks!! It's hell
