Post partum bump - when does it go?

I’ve still got what looks like a pregnancy bump and I’m now 2 weeks postpartum. I’ve put on a lot of weight (3 stone according to the scales) and I’m pretty down about how I look.

Will my ‘baby bump’ go down anymore over the next week or so or it it likely to all be fat left at this that I’ll have to work hard to get rid of?

The bump itself takes the shape of a pregnancy bump when I’m standing and then flattens (sort of) when I lie down leaving what is clearly a lot of belly fat but no rigid bump as such.

Is there any hope that some of this 3 stone is going to disappear quickly in the next week or so or is it likely to all be fat that I have to diet/ exercise away? It’s quite daunting!

It will go when it’s ready. You’ve just had a baby and unless you are one of those very rare people who seem to miraculously ping back to pre pregnancy weight it will take a while to disperse. Think what your body has just gone through! It is more important to focus on eating healthily, getting some gentle exercise and plenty of rest when your beautiful baby is sleeping. It will all come good in time. Congratulations btw!

2 weeks is very early days. Be kind to your body. It took 9 months to grow your bump, it's not going to disappear over night.

I put on a lot of weight when I was pregnant as the only way I could stop the nausea was to eat. So despite losing some weight as soon as I gave birth I still had 2 stone to lose. I walked a lot and followed a healthy diet. I also did a Pilates class especially for women who'd just given birth. I'd highly recommend that. The NHS do free classes on YouTube so you can do them whenever you can fit them in.

There is always some work involved in getting your body back to pre-pregnancy shape but don't worry about it at this very early stage.

I found I held a lot of water weight initially. I did a before and after birth weigh in and of lost less than the baby weighed so I knew it wasn't right. It settled after a few weeks.

Everyone's so different.. genetics, weight gain, if you feed yourself etc you can't really predict. Try not to worry, be kind on yourself..you've just grown a baby 😊

I get where you're coming from though, in this heat we can't hide the bits we want to atm x

6-8 weeks in my case. Be patient with yourself and eat sensibly.

Not baby bump but I still have some overhang 'mum tum' 4 years later which is basically just stratched skin that will never be the same. Don't expect to get back toj pre preg weight, it's too much pressure right now and two weeks is barely anytime, your still healing and hormones all over the place. It will come x

To add I put on 2 stone ish and it's not a huge overhang just incase that sounds scary!! With clothes on you wouldn't know, it's just me really but I had a huge amount of fluid to shift from my ankles to my foof Shock

My vaginal birth baby bump went down very quickly but it took six months for my c-section! Breastfeeding speeds things up a bit, but I wouldn't worry if you're not bf, it'll happen, maybe just a bit slower.

Congrats on your new baby!
