Retained Placenta Claim

I had a retained placenta when my Son was born and I had surgery at the time to specifically remove the placenta however alot was missed. It was Ignored at several drs appointments and resulted with me in A&E in pain, after delaying my surgery i had large parts of the placenta stuck half in and half out and had to remove these myself at home. Has anyone experienced anything similar and has anyone sued for this type of event?

Sorry to hear about your experience. I had similar. I had my daughter and a couple of days later I passed a huge clot. I went to hospital and showed them and they said my blood tests looked fine, no signs of infection and that it might just be where my blood was clotting due to sitting down for hours at a time.
Couple of days later I had to call an ambulance, had the same as you - HUGE clot stuck half in half out, had to be removed with forceps. I had internal scans which showed more retained placenta. I was told that if they were to operate they could rupture my womb. So I was left to pass it naturally which was safest. But I was extremely unwell.

That was last year and I’m now expecting my second in 5 weeks, and I’ve been told that it’s likely that I’ll have retained placenta again. I’m terrified. I have a 10 month old and I’m scared my birth is going to go horribly wrong.

From what I’ve been told, all the doctors have said is ‘these things happen’ and they don’t know why it happens. So I have no real answers as to whether or not it could have been prevented? I’m also torn because I feel like suing the NHS isn’t morally the right thing to do. But I want them to be more careful in these situations.

I have no expertise but the charity AVMA I’ll be able to advise - they have a good helpline

Will be able to

I have no connection with them but got advice on a different birth related issue
