Hip pain

Sorry if this is in the wrong place - I am not post natal any more but the problem started after I had my baby (never had it before!) so hoping someone can help!

I get agonising pain in my right hip at the top of my leg. I can’t bear weight properly on it, I walk with a limp and struggle to stand up. Often I can’t move my leg.

It doesn’t hurt all the time, only when moving.

I managed to accidentally ‘pop’ my hip (it was deafening) a few weeks ago and the pain went away instantly

But it has since come back.

Nothing seems to help and, to be honest, I’m a bit frightened

I called my GP, who referred me for physio, who called me once and because I didn’t answer they discharged me!

I can’t go back to my GP now for a reason I won’t go into details of, but please don’t flame me for this. I don’t want to lose my job and I am afraid that if I reveal this injury I will.

I had an extremely traumatic birth and I wonder if they damaged me? I had a violent, non medicated manual placenta removal where I was physically held down on the table by two men due to the force being used by the two doctors, who had to take turns. This is what makes me scared they may have damaged me.

Has anyone else ever had this? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I'm really sorry to hear about what you went through. It may or may not be related to your current pain.

I get pelvic girdle pain during pregnancy and am 5 days post partum. My pain is 10x worse than it was during my pregnancy.

I managed my condition during pregnancy by regularly visiting an osteopath privately. The NHS physio was as useless as a chocolate teapot for me (here are your crutches, now off you pop!).

Check out the pelvic partnership website to see if it might offer you hints and tips, as well as recommendations for treatment.

I am 2.5 years post baby number three. I had PGP for each pregnancy which went after the birth. However over Christmas I did a bad weights season and it came back to the point you mentioned in your OP. I've been having physio and it is working ... slowly. I think you will need to go back. Can you send refer to your post natal physio team? In Bristol you can do this. Otherwise maybe find a private physio and take the hit by having a monthly session. I started with pelvic tilts and have moved up to bridges and scissors but you need to be properly assessed. Pilates might also help. My limited knowledge of this suggests that this is a super common issue faced by post natal women and you need to build strength but as always I am not an expert and you need expert advice. Hope that helps

I think the only thing you can do at this stage is go to a private physio who specialises or has an interest in post natal care. I've noticed that any of the physios locally who do pre-natal Pilates seem to do this, so this might be a good place to start in your search.

Hip pain is very common post pregnancy due to the relaxation of ligaments and the amount of pressure on the joints in the later stages. I had a bit of it until DD was 12mos- not as bad as you, but enough that I was worried about it. In the end it just stopped.

Thank you ladies for your replies and kind words 💙

I did see an oestoparh during my pregnancy as bubba got himself into a very strange position (I had to go to hospital after I started vomiting from pain!) and she really, really helped me. So I think I will just take the hit and go back and see her. At £70 for 45 mins j was hoping to avoid it but never mind 😆

I hope you all recover soon and keep safe x
