So thinking of getting the coil fitted (13 weeks post partum) and just wanted to know people's experience of having the copper coil. I really want to go down the non hormonal route but will be periods really become that much more painful and heavier after having it fitted?

Would love to hear from you before I commit to getting it fitted

Thanks

I had one in my twenties long before children, it was pretty bad sadly - periods 8 days long, and very heavy. Terrible cramps.

I was told at the time they are better suited to women who have had children, as your cervix & uterus are stretched? Not sure how true that is.. I’m not sure I would try one again to be honest despite now having had two DC’s

I had one after baby 2, went with e copper coil as I didn't want more hormones after being on the pill for many years before children. It made my periods very regular once I'd settled into Things but my Periods were long and heavy. They lasted at least 7 days and 5 of those days were very heavy. I often had to use a tampon & a pad on the heaviest day.
As long as you are prepared for the heavy periods I think it is a good form of birth control.
