Postpartum nightsweats 5 months after baby

Hi everyone,

I'm currently 5 months postpartum. The first 6 to 8 weeks I had debilitating nights sweats. The kind when you wake up in soaking wet sheets and your whole body is soaking wet. The kind where you have to wash the sheets everyday as they stink.

Those definitely stopped, but I still regularly wake up in the morning with a damp neck or a layer of sweat between my thighs.

I'm not sure if they can even be called nightsweats. Just generally waking up sweaty in the morning, but not to the point where my t shirt is wet or my bed clothes.

I stopped breastfeeding at around 3 months.

Is anyone else going through this/has some advice?
x

I don't get them anymore but used to get them after my third child was born, they lasted a couple of years on and off.
I would be freezing one minute and then sweating profusely the next and drench in sweat, at times i had to sleep on top of a towel!
Gradually wore off and I haven't had in a long time now (he's 6).

Mine went on for a good 6 months after stopping breast feeding.

Thanks for your replies :)

@RandomMess

Did they slowly taper off or did they stop abruptly? Did you do or take anything to improve them?

I think it just wore off over time, was many years ago now!

I had a mirena coil fitted when she was 3 weeks old stopped feeding her about 6 months old and I had night sweats until she was at least a year old. Never happened with any of the others 🤷🏽‍♀️

I had these so I really sympathize. Once was so bad I honestly thought I'd wet the bed, mine was linked to my induction and being pumped with so many bags of fluid.
I found sleeping on a bath sheet on top of the mattress helpful, it absorbed alot. I can't remember when it stopped but I was so worried I was abnormal, it's another I expected thing after pregnancy.

Mine carried on for well over a year after I stopped breast feeding.

Are your periods normal? Are you carrying extra pregnancy weight still?

foodster · 04/01/2021 17:29

@shouldistop

Sort of normal. Normal in strength and in length (5 days). I had my period three times since giving birth. Cycle length is a bit erratic, although I was told that's quite normal after giving birth. First cycle length was 39 days and second cycle was 32 days, whereas before birth they were 28 days most of the time.

And yes, I unfortunately still carry extra pregnancy weight. Still have to lose 10 kg and I'm a bit overweight now. x

@Ellapaella

Oh wow,

That's quite a long time. Not sure how you
managed. I don't have to use a towel or sweat so much that my bed clothes are wet, but when I wake up, there's always a thin, wet layer of sweat on my neck or on my thighs and it's so disgusting x
