Will my pelvic floor return some what naturally?

Went for a wee and tried to stop it mid flow and had such a struggle. I did have an episiotomy.

I will do some pelvic floor exercises but just wondered if this is normal after having a baby and it will strengthen over time?

I'm not an expert, but I did have a baby!

My pelvic floor was buggered after having my baby. Being able to stop mid-flow was the least of my problems! I did some pelvic floor exercises (I do them while cleaning my teeth now). The squeezy app is good and teaches you how to do them properly.

My pelvic floor is much better now and I could definitely stop mid-flow if I needed to (by the way, don't do this too much - it can cause cystitis).

By the way, my baby is now 2. By 3/4 months old, things were pretty much back to normal (sudden sneezes notwithstanding!)

I think it's more common than normal. How did your 6 week check up go with your GP?
I would contact your women's physio department and they can help with particular exercises etc. I think you can direct refer (no GP referral wait delays) until 6 months post partum.

@bumpyknuckles thank you! I will start doing them regularly 🤞

@B1rthis I've not had my 6 week check as they've turned it into an 8 week one due to COVID

Following as 9 weeks pp and having this issue!

eddiemairswife · 24/10/2020 14:25

Silly question, but why do you need to stop mid-flow?

Sunflower2019 · 29/10/2020 15:35

@CountryGirl36 I have my gp appointment Monday so will know more then 😌 apparently lots of pelvic floor exercises!!!

@eddiemairswife if you can hold your pee then it's good pelvic floor tone if not then basically you're buggered 🤣

If you can definitely go see a women's health physio for a 'mummy Mot'. They will check your pelvic floor (as well as stomach muscles, posture, any niggles etc) and then give you a training programme.

I spoke to my doctor and HV about my pelvic floor (was peeing a little bit at the end of a wee at 6 weeks still) but quite frankly it's not their area of expertise. It did cost £75 but best money I've spent. The physio checked me as I did my pelvic floor and found that while I had good strength holding, my strength for 'fast pulses' needed work. I've been working on this and no more issues 😊

You shouldn't be holding mid flow post partum. There's new research. Also search Jilly Bond on YouTube
