Choking baby

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this but desperately seeking advice. My ten week old baby is having trouble with choking on her vomit. It's happened about 5 times since we've brought her home.

She feeds fine and burps after feeding. She will quite often bring a little bit of milk back up but doesn't struggle with it. When the choking happens, it's usually about 2-3 hours after feeding. She'll be laying flat and vomit and it's getting stuck. She can't move the blockage herself and we have to flip her over and pat her back hard to clear it. Today, she's gone a very pale grey colour afterwards due to lack of oxygen.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before and if there's anything I can do to help her. The doctors have just said that I need to make sure she's been winded properly which we're doing. I'm now terrified of leaving her in case it happens again.

This is not normal and you need to talk to a doctor asap.

RedPandaFluff · 19/10/2020 19:51

@Stitchyfingers how scary for you! No, this isn't normal, and I'd be pushing for urgent investigations if I were you.

GalOopNorth · 19/10/2020 19:53

Not normal.
GP ASAP

Stitchyfingers · 19/10/2020 19:53

Thank you. It's what I thought. She's ok now but it doesn't feel right. We have an appointment tomorrow so I'll bring it up then.

Not normal. You need to insist she is seen by a G.P or hospital ASAP.

My daughter did this! It was awful but she outgrew it after 12 weeks or so. She used to flail around in her basket when it happened. I tried to explain it to my husband but I think he thought I was exaggerating until he actually saw it for himself. GP was unconcerned and said it was probably just reflux.

cosmo30 · 19/10/2020 19:56

Oh my this must be terrifying for you! Yes mention it to the gp ASAP

ArizonaRobbins · 19/10/2020 19:58

Was she a section baby? My daughter was and she always struggled to clear her mucus (quite common in section babies apparently). I was always sure it was linked to that.

oldmums · 19/10/2020 19:58

could be re-flux but please don't just ignore it, my friend baby has this and its been found to be a floppy airway needs looking into xx

Stitchyfingers · 19/10/2020 20:42

No she was a natural birth. We thought reflux too but she has a cyst on her lung and not sure the impact that might have had. Called 111 for piece of mind and now on our way to A&E get checked. Thanks all.

So glad you're going to A&E, @Stitchyfingers - your post really frightened me, I'm sure you didn't want to take your eyes off your poor wee baby! Let us know how you get on Thanks

30not13 · 20/10/2020 10:44

@stitchyfingers how are you all?

Stitchyfingers · 20/10/2020 10:55

We were seen by lots of doctors and admitted for the night as they have also detected a heart murmur that they want to keep an eye on.

They think the choking might be due to some delayed reflux and have advised us to keep her elevated in her crib and use infant gaviscon to help keep it down.
