Pregnant with an existing prolapse

Hello ladies. I was wondering if anyone had some info or advice on this topic, as I'm really worrying myself! After my first pregnancy I suffered a prolapse, which was never properly looked at or examined by a doctor so I'm unsure which organ/organs are effected. I am pregnant again, and the doctor has told me that no one will want to examine me now that I'm pregnant, and have just be so unhelpful? From what I've read online, an existing prolapse can cause miscarriage and early labour, so now I can't relax! I was just wondering if any of you have been pregnant again with an existing prolapse, and if you came across any complications?

How severe a prolapse are we talking? I would have thought it would need to be pretty bad to cause a miscarriage, although I admit I'm no expert.

I had what was probably a mild prolapse investigated after my first pregnancy. My GP was great, agreed she could see something, and referred me to gynae... who were then ridiculously dismissive. Basically walked into the room, asked if I wanted more children, and then turned around and left, saying come back when I decide if I'm done having kids. It was very anticlimactic and upsetting.

As it happens, the prolapse was remarkably improved after giving birth the second time. It was like everything just returned to a better position than it had the first time. Far from perfect, and physio after that also helped a lot. But after that second birth I could suddenly stand for more that 2 minutes without feeling like my insides were about to fall out of me, which hadn't happened since the previous birth!

So even if you had been referred prior to falling pregnant again, they still may not have been interested or examined you unless you said you had completed your family, as frustrating as that is. It might be worth talking to your midwife about though. They would at least have info about how prolapses effect pregnancy and hopefully put your mind at ease.

Hi, I had a prolapse after my first child. I was super worried when pregnant with second, and mid pregnancy my symptoms really peaked. I did pelvic floor exercises religiously ,got referred to a women's health physio (I really insisted with GP) and while she didn't examine me it was very helpful to discuss what to do to protect it during pregnancy. Also meant I could book in an appointment with her for soon after the birth.

In terms of the birth the prolapse didn't have any impact: no effect on the labour or anything. It didn't cause any complications apart from me feeling anxious about it!!

Now I'm 8 months past second birth. I'd say prolapse is in a better place (...!) Than 8 months past first birth.. However I think that's more to do with me being more proactive in managing it than anything else. I do pelvic floors diligently, other exercises physio gave me and listen to my body. I try and lie down for a few minutes here and there when playing with kids or similar to kind of 'reset it'. If I'm tired it's much worse, so on those days I limit activities that I know worsen it.

The physio I see has been amazing. The prolapse is grade 2 but she says it isn't fully set where it will stay until periods return and breastfeeding stops.

Hope this is of some help. Happy to answer any other questions, I know what a lonely place prolapse worry is!
