Stitches not dissolving!

Hi,
Had a 3rd degree tear now 8 weeks ago. I think one or two stitches are there still as I can feel the end poking out.
So my doctor will try to take it out, if not ill be referred back to the hospital. Honestly my worry is because of where it is they won't be able to...

Does anyone know what will happen if I do have to go back?? I had a pretty traumatic birth so I want to feel prepared or reassured

Hi Pstarx,

We're sorry to hear this is happening - we're no medical experts so can't offer you any specific advice unfortunately but we wanted to say hi and give this a bump for you.

Hopefully some of our users will be along shortly to offer you their support but we would always recommend seeking real life medical advice from professionals.

I can’t offer any personal experience but my friend who is a senior nurse told me that it is very, very common for a few stitches to not dissolve properly (in both tears c-sections) and that they can be removed very quickly and easily. Don’t worry about location - you can feel them, they can get them out. Please don’t worry, I’m sure it will be easily resolved. Hope you’re recovering well otherwise Flowers

That should say ‘tears AND c-sections’

Hi OP, I’m a midwife and I’ve removed a fair few stitches in my time. Generally speaking, it’s just a case of using a stitch cutter or sterile scissors to remove a knot and the stitch will just slide out. At 8 weeks I’d expect everything to be fairly well healed so it should be pretty easy and straightforward. Hopefully this is the case! It’s not that uncommon for the odd bit of suture material not to dissolve.
