Healing after C-Section

Hi so my baby is 3 weeks old and was born via emergency c-section.

My scar is raised like a worm, and my abdomen generally feels tender. Even rubbing lotion on it I have to do so very gently.

Anyone else with a c-section, how long before your belly felt normal? And how did your scar heal? I asked midwife about the fact that mine was raised and she said this is common and it will flatten out but I see no signs of this happening.

Also when did you start exercising? Would love to work on getting rid of the last of the baby fat (breastfeeding has done w great job at burning a lot of it away) but not sure when is a good time to get started.

Thanks!

Hey! I had one 2 months ago and I didn't feel better until 6 weeks after. I couldn't even really walk with the pram without being sore until then. My scar is still raised, not terribly but I guess these things take months to settle. I am totally fine walking and moving now, I haven't tried exercise really but I reckon I would be ok to. Just give yourself some time and try rest, it will help heal quicker! Remember it is major surgery so don't over-do it! Xx

Congrats on your new baby!

I'm 7 days in and I tend to get sore when I've been overdoing it so the soreness comes and goes.

The weird in my belly I also remember having the first couple of weeks after a VB - I think with the skin being stretched from pregnancy the nerves and feeling on it don't go back to normal right away.

I haven't braved looking at my own scar (I'm so squeamish!) so I just trust when the midwives have checked and declared it fine!

@GGx7 thanks for replying and the advice! Good to know what I'm experiencing isn't abnormal. I was most concerned about the raised scar but now I know I'm not alone in that I guess I'll just let nature take its course. Glad that you're feeling better!

@LillianFullStop thanks and congrats to you too! It feels so strange to touch right but I'm glad that should eventually go back to normal!

I don't get much discomfort anymore when moving, it's mainly when touching it which is odd.

Anyways hope you have a speedy recovery!

My kids were born few years ago but had c section with both. I’d say I was definitely still tender and delicate at 3 weeks post birth.

When DS has a cut sutured by the plastic surgeon the nurse removing the stitches recommended rubbing bio oil into it as it was raised. Now you can't even see it! My c section scar, on the other hand is still wide and numb almost 19 yrs on. The scar from my episiotomy (second birth - forceps) is absolutely fine - can't say I've ever looked at it but it's never given me any trouble since the actual healing process!
