First period after baby?

Does anyone know if it's normal for first period after having a baby to be very heavy and painful?
I'm 14 weeks postpartum and had a bit of spotting after about 9 weeks but then started a proper period yesterday. It's really heavy (going through an ultra tampon in less than a couple of hours) and cramps are worse than I used to have. Does this sound right?
Thanks

Hello, I was the same. A year later my periods are better but not the same as pre-baby. If you are worried then speak to the GP to ensure there isn't anything else going on.

Hiya, congratulations! Yes I was the same, I got quiet worried as it was so heavy and I couldn't tolerate the period pains. But it did calm down after a few days. Also agree with the above poster, since having my son my periods haven't been the same! I start getting period pains nearly 5 days before I'm due Confused

Thanks. It's totally grim - scared to move in case I leak everywhere, it didn't even seem this bad in the days after my son was born! Will be very glad when this is over!!!

I was the same, I remember getting up to put him in his cot and the bed was stained! I hope your feeling better soon Smile
